Position Description

Algorithmic Software Developer Secure Space Systems

CGI’s Secure Space Systems business is seeking a self-motivated software developer with proven capability in the development and improvement of software algorithms around surveillance and tracking of activity in space.

leading the implementation of speculative and more mature software both in small projects and within a larger programme streams.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and able to collaborate with senior technical leads and a small team of junior developers to respond to changing priorities and to meet agreed objectives.

Domains currently of active interest include :

Latest techniques in orbit determination, refinement and update from sensor data feeds

Flight dynamics, including continuous thrust manoeuvres

Tracking and correlation techniques

Machine learning

Initiative and good communications skills are essential components of this role, as well as a flexible approach. You will also need to work effectively with external and internal stakeholders.

Candidates must be SC cleared or SC Clearable

Your future duties and responsibilities

Leading a small team of developers including direction, guidance, quality review and best practice development

Collaborating with technical leadership to agree approaches, report progress and adapt approaches

Writing software

Defining robust strategies to develop confidence in developed software

Writing internal and external reports and papers on findings

Supporting business development activities when required

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

Essential :

University STEM degree or equivalent qualification

Competent with applied mathematics

Willingness to take ownership of delegated responsibility

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

Positive can-do’ attitude

Commitment to quality, best practice and attention to detail

Highly Desirable :

Experience in or similar to one of the domain areas of interest and willingness to broaden

Experience with at one of the following languages and willingness to extend

oJulia

Track record with algorithm development, considering numerical accuracy

Understanding of the principles of software project lifecycles (Waterfall / Agile).

Desirable :

Track record within the space sector

Track record with libraries including OREKIT, Stone Soup, Keras

Track record with software development tooling including GIT

Ability to work from CGI’s Leatherhead office

Occasional trips to CGI’s customers in the UK, Europe and Worldwide
