    Galliford Try Building are looking for a Senior Estimator to join their team in the North West of England.

    Role Overview :

    The successful candidate will be focused on getting the best price that will win the contract in a competitive bidding situation, whilst ensuring that the contract can be carried out profitability.

    Key Responsibilities :

  • Review ITT documentation, understand requirements and translate into winning bid strategy
  • Identify requirement for additional design consultants and surveys
  • Preparation of enquiry schedules and liaising with the Commercial, Procurement and Operational Departments in the selection of appropriate companies from whom quotations should be sought.
  • Obtaining sufficient quotations enabling valued commercial judgements at settlement meetings.

  • Detailed analysis of subcontractors’ tender returns, taking account of programme, methodology, risks and price to ensure recommendation of correct supply chain
  • Provide all information necessary to enable the Legal / Commercial Director to review insurances, bonds and Warranties
  • Produce analytical rate build up information for Bills of Quantities as instructed in an accurate and well detailed format
  • To identify and analyse angles to give a commercial advantage to the Company bids
  • To identify and analyse risks and produce a risk register to support the tender at settlement meetings.
  • Prepare site preliminary cost estimates in accordance with the current Company trading requirements.
  • To attend the tender settlement meetings and ensuring that all relevant cost information is readily available for presentation and complete the tender as instructed and gain confidence of Management Board in presenting quality of cost estimate information
  • All documentation gathered for a successful bid submission to departments concerned that comply with the Company Quality Management System.
  • Communicate to all parties the nature of the work and any special conditions affecting the contract, by the production staff fully understanding how the bid was put together

  • Maintain regular contact with the Delivery Teams at all times to obtain feedback on cost, technical and commercial performance.
  • Produce high level and detailed cost plans to support work winning activities
  • Produce and contribute to the written submission of stage tender opportunities i.e commentary to support cost plan submission, procurement strategy etc
  • Record tender outcomes / Feedback to ensure lessons learnt
  • Adhere to systems and procedures on BMS
  • Procure and negotiate design consultant fees and surveys
  • Establishing and maintaining positive and effective relationships with clients, partners and post tender project teams
  • Experience and Qualifications :

  • HNC / HND / Degree Construction or equivalent
  • A good understanding of commercial estimating software (Conquest) and Excel
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communications skills
  • The ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team
  • Key sector experience is essential, healthcare including P framework, education including familiarity with DfE framework, leisure including hotels and student accommodation
  • Experience of working on project values between £-£M
  • A proven track record of preparing tenders in respect of major building projects, gained with a main contractor
  • Experience of typical procurement routes including Single and Two Stage Tendering, Design & Build, Frameworks and Negotiated Tenders
