PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To Assist in carrying out Heavy maintenance and modification on the Company’s fleet of D.M.U’s and LHCS focusing on optimum reliability and safety of the fleet.
To assist in this work without effecting the service delivery ensuring duties are performed to an acceptable standard as instructed by the heavy maintenance and modification Engineer and Fleet Service deliver manager.
To deputise for the Heavy maintenance and modification Engineer.To ensure that relevant Health and Safety and Environmental regulations and other relevant company procedures are adhered to as discharged by the Depot Production Manager.
To ensure that job specific activities do not introduce unacceptable business and safety risks to any aspect of the Company’s operation, and that the appropriate policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to, ensuring that all such activities comply with the relevant sections of the Safety Case and the current Safety Plan.
N.B. : this role has shift working.
Manage and prioritise workload, giving particular attention if required. to assist in Call-outs to vehicles with reported defects in traffic.
Control of maintenance and contractor staff within your designated area.Plan and ensure that the specified maintenance workloads are carried out in a cost-effective manner at the correct periodicity, allocating resources as appropriate.
Ensure that all trains leaving the Depot are fit for traffic
Arrange before and after examinations of Heavy maintenance and modification Verify documentation sheets for all staff.
Monitor and advise the Stores Supervisor of material requirements for Heavy maintenance and modifications and equipment to meet workload requirements.
Recommend changes to stock levels as appropriate to meet changed requirements.
Ensure that Rules, Regulations, Notices, Instructions and Appendices are implemented correctly.
Co-ordinate the work activities of any contractor staff into the Depot work programme with due regard to limiting any disruption.
To ensure adherence by staff allocated to you to the relevant procedures and instructions.
To undertake other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Recognised Mechanical / Electrical Engineering apprenticeship.
Previous experience within a similar environment.
Proven written and oral communication skills.
Strong organisational skills.
Possesses a flexible approach to this demanding role.
Technical and engineering knowledge of Chiltern Railways Fleet.
ONC or above in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / PC / Software qualification.
Good understanding of relevant health and safety and environmental regulations / procedures.
