We currently have a vacancy for a Technical Network Engineer to join our OPS Implementation department working within the Technical Network Team.
The Job Role has some expectation of travelling that could consist of anywhere nationally in the UK and even into other parts of Europe where Sky has needs to implement or operate a Network.
The role will be mainly Transmission based DWDM, SDH, but Voice and IP are also part of the day-to-day activities with in the role.

You will :
To ensure SLA’s are meet between the Implementation / Operation Teams and Other Sky Departments / including Wholesale provisioning and projects flowing through the Implementation areas.
Commissioning and Operationally Support of the Nokia and Infirnera Core Transmission Network equipment for additional capacity and new extensions to the existing Transmission Network and the ability to involve other parties in helping in these activities
To liaise with Sky Core Network Engineering & Network Operations Teams to ensure new services are delivered and operationally functional with minimum impact to service
To ensure that all documentation is fully completed and updated for each completed activity as seen necessary, which includes the modification and understanding of High / Low Level Designs and in some cases creating new Designs for the Implementation Teams and passing back to Network Engineering
Raising Planned Works notices that affect the Sky Network within Sky Close integration with Network Operations, Change Management in Sky / Broadcast The process must have the ability to layout the five fundamentals that are required for Change Management
Identification and solve issues in the DWDM and SDH products where escalations are applied, this could include IP and Ethernet Networks or Broadband areas
Take on Technical Support and Operational activities during Implementation stages and Escalations from 1st Line Operations into the Team.
Ability to maintain dedicated Budgets on Projects to order and identify any short falls in Manpower or Materials falling outside the dedicated Budget.
You’ll have :
Technical Competency Specialist skills, knowledge and experience
Appreciation of cable handling techniques to a basic level
Reasonable skills in using PC’s and abilities to use Office Products to a reasonable degree
Understanding of some basic terms in the Telephony business like Broadband and Networks
The ability to learn expediently and take on roles that might be quite challenging with the help of other Team Member or Training within Sky
Knowledge in the understanding basic Optical Fibre characteristics
Some Knowledge of IP experience for configuring a basic IP Network
Basic understanding of Electricity and the difference between AC and DC Systems
Bringing new and innovated skills / Technologies to the table
