We are currently recruiting for a Software Developer to join our team in our Head office in Manchester or Belfast on a 12 month fixed term contract.
The successful candidate will take ownership for the design, development, testing and maintenance of internally developed software products, platforms and integrations that support business operations.
What you’ll do :
Contribute to the design of solutions that focus on optimising the cost of delivery as well as ensuring solutions are robust and flexible
Follow the Lookers development process for development, testing (including unit testing), source control and deployment methodologies
Understand best practices for software development and follow the architectural principles when implementing solutions
Engage with stakeholders when required to further detail initial requirements
Ensure bugs found in testing are kept to a minimum and identify areas of improvement in existing code base and where necessary implement these changes
Be able to work in a variety of database environments and be able to design structures that complement the solution they are designed to deliver
What we’re looking for :
Social versatility and an ability, be good at communicating within their team any slippage or blockage for work they are involved with (gets on with different types of people)
Able to work and take decisions independently, providing solutions and anticipating / overcoming challenge.
Can respond and be flexible to changing business needs and has the ability to influence and challenge where appropriate
Ability to Multi-task Effectively and have strong Attention to detail
Comfortable with escalating any issues where necessary and in a timely manner
Willingness and ability to learn / understand different systems as required
Knowledge of two (or more) of the following;
SSIS (highly desirable)
SQL (MS SQL, MySQL, PLSQL)
MS BI stack (SSRS / Power BI)
The following skills are also desirable;
Knowledge of Relational Database and Data Warehouse methodologies
Knowledge of Analytics (eg. SAS or SPSS)
Exposure to Big Data Technologies and Predictive Analytics (R, Machine Learning, Azure ML, Watson Analytics, Hadoop, NOSQL etc)
