Role description :

Across the UK, we are looking to recruit Senior / Principal Town Planners, with a good understanding of the UK planning system, to help meet the needs of our clients and projects.

You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, lead and coordinate projects, work closely with clients, develop new areas of business, and work closely with others in our integrated Planning and Environmental team.

We are looking for town planners who have experience of leading and delivering planning consents including Development Consent Orders, applications under the Town and Country Planning Act, Hybrid bills or applications for Transport and Works Act Orders.

You will have experience at business development as well as project delivery and be experienced at working in a multi-disciplinary environment.

We specialise in providing our clients with advice and support on development proposals through all stages of the planning process from early project feasibility and appraisal of options, through public consultation, application preparation, supporting public inquiries and examinations where required, and construction.

You will work on a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure projects, large-scale mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm and master planning projects.

We also work on world renowned major transport projects across the rail and highways sector, so would welcome candidates who can demonstrate experience on these sorts of projects.

Our clients include Homes England, National Grid, EDF Energy, SSE, and Scottish Power Renewables, Welsh Government and Transport for Wales, HS2, Network Rail, National Highways, water companies and many more.

Role accountabilities :

  • Desk studies, research and report writing including Planning and Design and Access Statements.
  • Assisting with or leading on the preparation of consent applications and advising on the planning aspects of complex schemes, which may include Town and Country Planning, Development Consent Order, Transport and Works Act etc.
  • Project management with effective budgetary control on projects
  • Liaising with internal and external clients and statutory bodies, and public consultation, as necessary.
  • Building good internal relationships through responsiveness and a commercial approach.
  • Support the growth of the planning and consenting capability at Arcadis.
  • Providing planning advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues
  • Engaging with consultees and stakeholders.
  • Qualifications & Experience :

  • Proven track record of delivering planning consents which may include projects across multiple consenting regimes including Development Consent Orders, Transport and Works Act Orders, Town and Country Planning Act, Hybrid Bill etc
  • Experience across multiple sectors and all stages of the planning and consenting process
  • Be able to establish a strong internal and external network to support the successful delivery of projects.
  • Display first class communication, interpersonal, relationship building, collaboration and influencing skills
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and matrix management organisations on major projects and programmes.
  • Confident leading and working alone or as part of a team, with ability to adapt as required.
  • Excellent communication including writing and presentation skills.
  • Practical working knowledge of the UK planning system and consenting process
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered RTPI status or working towards.
