The role will be part of the overall Research & Development business unit and will be responsible for test rigs and test engineering resource specifically focused on dry gas seal development projects.
The manager will be responsible for the maintenance, improvement and commissioning of new test rig assets which directly enable the team to take concepts and develop them into commercial products.
The individual will also be responsible for directly managing a team of test engineers / technicians to manage their workload and deliver products that meet business needs and departmental objectives for the wider NPD team.
Duties & Responsibilities
Management of assembly and commissioning of mechanical and electrical test rigs
Lead and support in the design of suitable test rigs and programs.
Managing the mechanical and electrical maintenance, improvement and commissioning of high pressure and high-speed assets
Managing the refurbishment and replacement of hydraulic pipework, valves and components
Basic mechanical and electrical repairs undertaken
Liaising with customers and suppliers
Managing the end of line testing, calibration, and inspection
Inspection and investigation of test rigs to identify maintenance requirement
Producing data logs and reporting data for further analysis
Lead continuous improvement activities
Managing a small team of test engineers
Managing their workload to deliver products that meet business needs and departmental objectives
Performance management including development planning and training as required
Participation in the department’s innovation initiative - the invention of new concepts / ideas, and the generation of new IP.
Along with the other team members, contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment, including following appropriate HSE procedures / performance of risk assessments as appropriate.

Educated to HNC / HND or higher in Mechanical or Electrical / Electronic Engineering
Experience working within a similar position
Knowledge of assembly and commissioning of test rigs
Confident knowledge of mechanical systems and interpretation of mechanical drawings and P&ID drawings
Some knowledge of PLCs, electrical systems and interpretation of electrical drawings
Knowledge of hydraulic systems, preferably within the following sectors : actuators, valves, pumps, compressors, general rotating equipment .
Attention to detail and the ability to build good relationships.
A resource-oriented person with an innovative mind and focused on deadlines and targets.
