    Primary Purpose of the Role

    As the UK Bid, Project Planning & EVM Lead you will play a critical role in driving improved project performance by increasing the maturity of planning and EVM capability across Thales in the UK.

    This includes developing and implementing a capability improvement programme along with hands-on leadership and guidance to actively support key bids and projects in a Delivery Assurance capacity.

    To be successful you will need an outstanding track record in managing project controls activity throughout the full project lifecycle from bid to closure, whilst being recognised as an expert in planning and EVM.

    You will also be skilled in balancing many competing priorities from a functional and operational delivery perspective, working at a high tempo and influencing a broad network of stakeholders to make a real impact on delivery performance.

    This is a highly visible role in a brand new Delivery Assurance Team. You can expect real responsibility and the opportunity to hugely impact the success of a broad range of critical programmes across all of the Thales Business Units.

    Key Responsibilities and Tasks :

    Increasing Planning and EVM Maturity (approx. 25% of role)

  • Leadership of Planning & EVM as a discipline within the B&PM function including the network of specialists across CBUs / Domains
  • Development and delivery of the Planning / EVM component of the overall B&PM capability improvement plan that addresses people (competencies, recruitment, talent, training / mentoring / coaching, certification), processes, practices and tools
  • UK referent and process correspondent for the Planning and EVM components of the Business Management system (CHORUS 2.
  • 0) including the Scheduling & EVM toolset

  • Ensuring compliance with process and standards - acting as the approver for process tailoring where appropriate
  • Identification, sharing and capitalisation of best practice
  • Maintaining alignment with Group standards and initiatives
  • Maintaining alignment with external standards and benchmarking to inform future improvements
  • Delivery Assurance missions (approx. 75% of role)

  • Hands-on support to Bids or Projects (either independently or as part of a TIGER team) :
  • Support to Project setup and / or recovery
  • Assurance reviews (analysis, diagnosis, recommendation)
  • Schedule component of Baseline Validation of Critical and B2 Bids
  • Short-term dedicated support (E.g. at critical phases of a Bid or Project)
  • Medium-term interim / transition management (in exceptional cases)
  • Audits (internal and / or external) focussed on compliance to process and best practice
  • Hands-on support to Portfolios and / or CBUs / Domains :
  • Coaching, mentoring and training
  • Deployment of new capabilities
  • Supporting organisational change activities
  • Mobilising Planning & EVM expertise from across the Bid & Project Management community to multiply’ UK-wide TIGER capacity and capability
  • The role will also involve occasional ad-hoc duties that are not listed above but are necessary to respond to the needs of the business.

    These ad-hoc duties will be consistent with being a member of the UK Bid & Project Management function and / or a Project Planning & EVM position within Thales.

    What are we looking for in you?

  • Subject Matter Expertise in Planning, Scheduling and EVM principles, processes and practices
  • Adept at building robust and productive relationships in a complex environment with many stakeholders - within the function, transversally across functional and business unit boundaries (including GBUs as well as CBUs / Domains) and across geographic boundaries as well as externally to Thales
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written presentation and report writing
  • The ability to lead project interventions in a matrix-style function and organisation
  • The ability to design, deliver and secure planned benefits from change initiatives
  • The ability to build trust, credibility and rapport with key Bid & Project stakeholders and senior sponsors during Delivery Assurance missions
  • The posture to support, coach and mentor others including a willingness to help produce outputs
  • The ability to assess, decipher, report and act upon salient performance information from a variety of indicators
  • A positive attitude, comfortable working in an environment with many competing priorities and the versatility to rapidly adapt and engage
  • Excellent technical project planning and EVM skills with proficiency in common toolsets (Primavera, MS Project, COBRA, Fuse)
  • Familiarity with scheduling tools (Primavera) and Enterprise Risk Management tools (ARM)
  • Essential :

  • Significant experience of establishing and managing schedules on complex projects / programmes
  • Significant experience of implementing and operating EVM on complex projects / programmes
  • Experience of implementing best practice in large and complex organisations
  • Experience of working in a leadership, energised / energising capacity and able to drive change with urgency and an absolute focus on outcomes and benefits
  • Working with competency and maturity frameworks based on industry standards
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering change
  • Evidence of the ability to coach and train others to develop capability
  • Evidence of the ability to draw strategic best practice from external professional sources to be applied internally for the advancement of Thales
  • Qualifications (Desired) :

  • P3M and P3O certification / qualifications from a recognised professional body
  • Planning, Scheduling and EVM certification / qualifications from a recognised professional body
  • Work Arrangement / Mobility / Locations

    There is scope to have this role based from a number of Thales key locations, including Crawley, Reading, Temple Combe or Cheadle Heath.

    You should expect to undertake regular UK business travel, including travel to customer sites as part of this role.
