Reporting to the Senior Process Safety Manager, the Overhead Engineering Safety Policy and Process Manager is responsible for ensuring all overhead engineering activities (processes and equipment) have been assessed from a safety perspective and have the right policy, procedures, documentation and training in place to ensure legal compliance and mitigate any risk to as low a level as reasonably practicable.

You'll have the following responsibilities
On the back of relevant incidents / near misses responsible for carrying out post-incident analysis on the policies and procedures associated with overhead engineering activities to ensure what’s in place is suitable and sufficient and that any gaps / improvements are identified and rectified.
Responsible for looking at new technology / processes used in other organisations with a view to implementing best practice.
Accountable for understanding and articulating Openreach’s overhead risk profile by analysing key data and providing meaningful interpretation in order to continually improve the risk profile.
This involves monitoring and analysing accident data and trends and carrying out deep dive analysis when required to inform future strategy decisions.
Responsible for the polices and ensuring suitable safe systems of work are in place for overhead engineering activities.
Responsible ensuring polices, process and safe systems of work are legally compliant and for monitoring the legal environment to ensure any changes and potential impact is identified, assessed, communicated to relevant stakeholders and actioned appropriately.
Responsible for the provision of safety advice into the business on the impact proposed changes to overhead engineering activities / work methods.
Provision of safety advice to Chief engineers and other business units in regards to the introduction of new pieces of equipment / tools / processes that affect overhead engineering activities.
You'll have the following skills & experience
Ability to act as trusted advisor and subject matter expert in relation to safety aspects of overhead engineering activities
Ability to act as liaison with Chief Engineer team, external suppliers and contributing to industry standards.
Able to work to the PDCA (Plan,Do,Check,Act) and CI (Continuous improvement frameworks to ensure policies are effective and up to date)
Able to effectively engage with all levels in the organisation, including those carrying out the activities to get a true understanding of how the processes are deployed in real scenarios.
Collaborative way of working, both internally and externally
Ability to provide clarity in ambiguity, including the ability to communicate legal requirements effectively to all levels of the organisation so that they are easily understood
Proven track record of leading teams with ability to matrix manage.
