Role Profile

The assistant will aid ongoing research projects examining the role of biodiversity and global change in altering human zoonotic disease risk.

This is a 6 month fixed term position.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • You will assist in all aspects of the research process, from project design, literature searches, collating data, curating and managing databases, through to writing research publications.
  • You will undertake some statistical analyses of data, under supervision of senior colleagues.
  • You will manage your own research and administrative activities, within guidelines provided by the project supervisor.
  • You will contribute to discussions and share research findings with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups.
  • You will take part in regular meetings with project leaders and maintain high standards of communication regarding progress towards meeting targets throughout.
  • The post will be mostly computational and is expected to be home-based for majority of the time, with potentially for some time spent working in departmental offices as rules allow.

  • Person Specification

    Qualifications & Experience

  • BSc / MSc in Ecology, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Applied Statistics or similar
  • Some experience in a research setting
  • Knowledge

  • Prior experience in collecting data and managing databases.
  • Strong quantitative knowledge and experience of daily use of coding environments such as R, Python or similar.
  • Background in producing high-quality written reports.
  • Basic statistical knowledge, preferably with some experience of regression-based analyses and / or Bayesian statistics.
  • Ability to work independently, structure time and keep to deadlines.
  • Good communication and team working skills.
  • Strong emphasis on initiative and self-motivation.
