This is a permanent staff appointment offering the successful candidate a chance to showcase their skills within a high performing team.

Reporting to the Manager of Machinery Engineering EMEA, this is a technical leadership position in the field of rotating equipment for process gases facilities (hydrocarbons, hydrogen, CO, ammonia, sulphur, CO2 and helium).

You will play a critical role in the development of competitive proposals for new business opportunities and be the Lead Machinery Engineer on medium-large sized projects, leading 1-2 other engineers (as appropriate) to deliver the assigned project scope.

Types of equipment that you will work with are broad ranging and depend on the project scope; examples include centrifugal, reciprocating and screw compression, process pumps, cryogenic pumps, fans, gas turbines, steam turbines and associated auxiliary equipment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Working with the proposal team (including third party engineering firms) to develop a competitive basis for the rotating equipment scope and its integration into the process cycle, representing the Machinery Engineering function in project planning activities and preparing the functional execution strategy and manhours estimate aligned to the project scope, overall execution strategy and schedule in Pre-FEED and Process Design Package (PDP) phases.
  • Leading the execution for technical elements of critical rotating equipment on assigned projects during Basic Engineering & Design and Detailed Engineering & Design phases with responsibility for delivering committed work on-schedule and on-budget.
  • Representing the Machinery Engineering function in cross-functional project meetings including P&ID review, HAZOP, layout review and model review.
  • Preparing technical specification packages for enquiry / purchase for critical rotating equipment and undertaking technical evaluation, development and technical risk assessment (including development of associated risk mitigation plans) of supplier proposals.
  • Leading kick-off and design review meetings with suppliers of purchased critical rotating equipment.
  • Liaising with the other engineering functions and coordinating cross-functional review of supplier drawings to facilitate integration of purchased equipment into the overall plant design compliant with Air Products engineering standards, supplier requirements and the project scope requirements.
  • Witnessing inspections and testing of purchased critical rotating equipment.
  • Providing technical support throughout the project construction and commissioning phases retaining overall technical responsibility for equipment until successful handover to the customer.
  • Performing site inspections to ensure installation in accordance with Air Products and supplier requirements.

  • Providing feedback to continuously improve internal engineering standards and work processes.
  • The role will require international travel to suppliers and project sites. Approximately 25% of your time may be spent travelling with some extended durations at project job sites to support construction, commissioning and start-up of rotating equipment.

The role will be primarily focused on process gases facilities but may include air separation facilities depending on team workload.

    What we’ll be looking for

  • Minimum of degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or related).
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or European Engineer (EurIng) status.
  • Experience in the selection and application of critical rotating equipment for process gases applications during proposal development including process cycle integration.
  • Experience in the specification, evaluation, engineering and inspection of rotating equipment for process gases applications in an EPC project environment.
  • Experience in both Specifying Engineer and Owner’s Engineer roles would be an advantage.

  • Experience in planning and leading the execution of critical rotating equipment with schedule and budget responsibility.
  • Experience in the application of internationally recognized codes (API, ASME, TEMA, IEC etc.).
  • A dedicated and driven approach with a strong grasp of technical principals, excellent communication skills, ability to build strong working relationships, attention to detail and desire to continually learn, improve and contribute.
  • Experience in providing technical leadership, supervision and mentoring to other engineers.
  • If this sounds like the opportunity you’ve been looking for, we’d like to hear from you. If we like each other we’ll offer you a competitive salary and benefits package and a working environment that thrives on respect, innovation, challenge, and personal and professional development.
