The Legal Data Management & Advisory (LDMA) team is a dynamic group of attorneys with a broad range of expertise in the financial services industry, regulatory matters, as well as legal technology.

LDMA attorneys are adept at leveraging contract analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning technology to resolve complex matters.

The team is responsible for advising on numerous enterprise regulatory and strategic change programs combining legal subject matter expertise and cutting edge technology.

The LDMA team also provides oversight and guidance to the Legal Agreement Repository (LAR) Operations teams. The team works closely with line of business attorneys to understand each business’ product and documentation.

LDMA also creates and tests custom artificial intelligence rule sets that are used in LAR to extract critical provisions.

In addition to LAR specific activities, the LDMA team provides legal advice, counsel and support to projects such as the jurisdictional Resolution Stay Rules, LIBOR cessation, etc.

Job Purpose :

BNY Mellon is seeking an experienced attorney to support the firm’s Legal Data Management & Advisory group in addition to leading bespoke projects within the Legal Department.

The team, primarily based in the US, is looking to expand its global coverage by hiring an attorney with jurisdiction-specific legal expertise to correspond and work closely with the LDMA team in New York.

The successful candidate will be based in Manchester or London and will have the following responsibilities, among others :

  • Maintain and enhance the firm’s artificial intelligent legal agreement repository by advising on legal issues, building artificial intelligence / machine learning rules and providing guidance and quality checks to the firm’s on and off shore document review specialists.
  • Coordinate various departments and stakeholders globally, including but not limited to legal, operations, compliance and lines of business to execute activities.
  • Create work product and provide advice related to the interpretation of a variety of agreement types, including but not limited to, custody agreements, corporate trust agreements, master netting agreements, loan and credit related documented and collateral agreements.
  • Advise on enterprise regulatory and strategic change programs combining legal subject matter expertise and thorough knowledge of LAR in a timely manner.
  • You will coordinate work with other lawyers in the EMEA Legal department, jurisdictional specific lawyers, and with the Office of Regulatory Relations to deliver a high standard of legal advice that is tailored to BNYM’s business models.


    Requirements : The candidate should have a law degree and be qualified as a solicitor. The successful candidate will have between 3 and 7 years of legal experience in the financial services industry.

    Candidate should be effective at using all available resources to resolve complex problems / issues. Candidate should be eager to learn and not shy away from asking questions or difficult tasks.

    Ideally, the candidate will have experience in the legal department of a large financial services organization and have familiarity with various types of financial services contracts.

    Experience working on large enterprise and / or regulatory change projects is also preferred. The candidate should also have :
