OVO’s vision is to provide clean and affordable energy for all. So that we can scale to millions more customers but keep energy affordable and clean, we need to provide the best possible tools to help our operational teams to resolve problems for customers as efficiently as possible.

As part of the Orion Ops Tooling Team, you’ll apply experience in UX design, information architecture and service design towards the delivery of a new web-based application that we’re building to address these needs, as well as the wider user experience for the people in these teams as they go about troubleshooting and resolving such problems.

Energy is a complex industry that brings complex exceptions, so there is a real opportunity through the design of a great UX to make the lives of our users easier and develop an industry-leading product.

You’ll get to know these people and their needs very well, and drive our vision to help them to become even more amazing at solving problems for OVO customers.

We’ve made a great start with our team of software engineers, and now the team is looking for a UX specialist to join them and take things on to the next level.

Your objectives

  • design and support the build of a web application (plus other tools if the needs emerge) that help our users to understand and solve problems quickly and easily, enabling us to offer a better, more cost-effective service for OVO’s customers
  • lead on the implementation of design patterns and principles for operational tooling across the Orion team
  • champion accessibility and usability across technologies
  • define, shape, and deliver live solutions for our users, striving to ensure the user experience is consistent, human-centred, and delivers a best-in-industry service
  • What you’ll be doing

  • meet our users from various operational teams, and understand their biggest frustrations plus opportunities to improve their workflow
  • gain an excellent understanding of the key business and customer outcomes that we are striving to achieve with ops tooling, and incorporating this focus into your work
  • get started straight away developing design patterns / principles and designing new user journeys based on user research
  • work closely with your product manager to evolve the team’s roadmap and backlog, particularly with regard to UX concerns
  • use the appropriate design tools and techniques to achieve the right outcomes
  • work as part of a cross-functional product team, using agile methodology and working in sprints
  • pair with software engineers on design and reviews to ensure feasible and accessible solutions
  • run workshops with teammates, users and other stakeholders to develop shared understanding, facilitate ideation and surface the best solutions
  • use generative and evaluative research methods to identify opportunities for improving the user’s experience as they go about resolving customer problems.
  • connect with our wider research and design community
  • be a constant advocate and voice for our users in design and refinement discussions with your team
  • develop our service blueprint, and use it to describe how people think about ops tooling needs
  • involve everyone in a culture of collaborative research, design, and testing
  • be a champion for our product, promoting with stakeholders and continuously seeking feedback on how well its delivering on their needs
