The Team

Addleshaw Goddard's Financial Regulation Team is a large team, which comprises 25 lawyers and compliance professionals split over Leeds, London and Edinburgh.

The Team has a very strong reputation for consumer finance and payments and is ranked in both Chambers and Partners and in Legal 500.

The Team is focused on growing its wealth, asset management and wholesale regulatory practice.

What's the role?

The area of Financial Regulation is always changing with regulators and government issuing new material to be aware of every day.

The Financial Regulation team has to stay on top of these developments in order to be leading advisers to its financial services clients.

In this role, you will help the team to stay on top of what is important, to help find out what is happening on topics and to help write client briefings and updates.

Day to day your role will be to :

  • Monitor new legislation, guidance, consultations and cases that impact financial regulation;
  • Work out which developments are most significant and alert the team to them quickly;
  • Quickly be able to write summaries of developments to upload onto horizon scanning platforms or to put into client updates;
  • Compile daily, weekly or monthly client updates based upon developments during a period;
  • Create first drafts of client updates, including client alerts, linked in content, thought leadership briefings;
  • Be able to talk to key developments in internal know how sessions, identifying the key important points for the team to focus on;
  • Present topics to clients in client update sessions;
  • Organise client events, including providing draft agendas or speaking slot suggestions;
  • Maintain client mailing lists;
  • Help with business development targeting activities and help support client care programmes.
  • Help to collate and share internally created know how, including creating and maintaining practice notes.
  • Delivering internal training to team members (particularly new or junior team members) on topics.
  • Conduct research on topics for fee earners.
  • What skills do you need?

    The person in this role must be able to :

  • Scan read large volumes of material quickly, extracting the key important points without getting bogged down in all the detail;
  • Be able to identify what developments are important to our clients quickly;
  • Have a good understanding of legislative and regulatory procedure to understand the stages to making proposals;
  • Have great communication skills to be able to get across complex material concisely to help quick understanding, including good oral and written presentation skills, being able to summarise material well.
  • Be very well organised and able to work without close supervision.
  • Someone with a genuine interest in financial regulation who is someone who wants to read up on areas and take responsibility for their own learning.
  • What experience do you need?

    You do not need to be a lawyer and you do not need to have previously worked as a professional support lawyer.

    We are looking for someone with existing experience working in the financial services industry with financial regulatory experience.

    We already have knowledge support covering consumer finance and payments and so our preference would be for someone with more experience of the regulation of wholesale banking or wealth and asset management.

    However, you are likely to be able to need to cover a wide area, so someone who is open to learning new areas quickly is important.

    We are keen to consider applications from a wide range of candidates, such as :

  • existing fee earners working in financial services regulation who now want to focus on knowledge support and business development;
  • existing professional support lawyers who are currently supporting financial regulatory practices;
  • those working in a public affairs, lobbying or trade association role working within the financial services market;
  • risk and compliance advisory professionals working in the financial services market;
  • business development or marketing professionals who have worked in financial services regulation and are used to considering regulatory developments as a fundamental part of their role;
  • those already in roles managing horizon scanning or regulatory developments;
  • industry journalists or reporters who are looking to use their market knowledge of the financial services industry in a different way.
