We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Senior Support Worker for each of our wards at Cygnet Stevenage, who is dedicated to making a difference to the patients in our care.
As a hands-on Senior Support Worker you will role model the behaviours we aspire to as a hospital and provide guidance and supervision to a team of support workers to ensure delivery of person-centred support.
You will represent Cygnet Values and be charged with extra duties and responsibilities on shift, promote a good work ethic and support the team, ensuring the shift runs smoothly as well as holding the role of Champion on your ward.
This role would suit someone happy to step-up and take on more responsibilities, is looking for a new challenge; someone who loves their job wants to go further in healthcare.
You will be working an average of 38.5hrs per week covering 12.5 hour shifts on a rota basis which will include weekends.
In this role you’ll :
Support the Nurse in Charge with the running of the ward, including assisting with the daily allocation.
Be the designated buddy for new colleagues and support them through their probationary period.
Inspire, encourage and foster supportive ways of working under the direction of the clinical team
Be the RRP Champion for the ward and be a role model and champion for other Support Workers.
Be an upbeat and positive team member who brings new ideas, can think on their feet, happy to represent their ward and be a starter finisher with projects.
Seek to improve the service user experience and to encourage better ways of working.
Support with cultural and ward change, alongside the Ward Manager and CTL’s.
Assist with ECG, Phlebotomy and other physical healthcare duties on the ward as necessary.
Conduct supervision of support workers. To support with debriefs and be an advocate for supporting staff with their own wellbeing and mental health.
Actively promote service user engagement and participation in planned on and off-site activities and to ensure the activity is well evidenced and fully recorded.
Attend all training as required and be prepared to achieve qualifications appropriate to the role at any particular time as specified by the company.
Ensure all documentation is completed fully and accurately at the end of the shift.
We're looking for people who have :
Minimum of 3 years support worker experience ideally in a mental health setting
A Qualification in Health & Social Care or studying for nursing qualification.
Experience working across PICU and acute services.
Positive attitude to people with Mental Health problems
Evidence of successfully dealing with challenging situations
Ability to form effective working relationships with Service Users and colleagues
Ability to undertake physical tasks involving patient care
Ability to demonstrate good literacy and numeracy skills
Good verbal communication skills.
A supportive nature and willingness to buddy new staff and promote a positive attitude.
Demonstrate an understanding of recovery approaches to mental health
