We are looking for Planning Officer to join our teams in Trowbridge, Chippenham and Salisbury.

About the Role

The planning team works alongside the communities in Wiltshire, and many statutory stakeholders i.e. Environment Agency, Historic England and Town and Parish Councils.

The senior planning officer is required to preserve and enhance the natural and built environment whilst working within the planning framework at national level, and in accordance with the locally adopted Core Strategy.

The team is responsible for determining between 6000 8000 planning applications each year, with accountability to the DCLG for the performance of these applications.

The principal purpose of each team is to deal with planning and listed building applications, appeals and pre-application enquiries to carry out development, or works to listed buildings and to liaise with and assist parish and town councils over the preparation of neighbourhood plans.

As a Planning Officer you will provide professional planning advice to Members and customers in order to ensure that the demands and priorities of the Planning Service are met.

You will deal with all types of planning applications - including major applications, making recommendations thereon as well as presenting to the Area and Strategic Planning Committees.

About You

You will have a recognised planning qualification (degree level) and eligible for membership of Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) Or recognised conservation qualification (degree level) and eligible for Membership of Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) or an equivalent and recognised organisation.

You will have knowledge of planning practice, procedures legislation, advice and policies or historic building and conservation practice, procedures legislation, advice and policies.

You will have good negotiation skills with the ability to undertake negotiations with developers to secure the best development possible along with contributions to community infrastructure.

The post holder should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as having the ability to work within a team to provide a high quality customer focused planning service.
