An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated Band 4 Advanced Senior Pharmacy Support Worker to join our developing Southampton Oncology Centre Pharmacy (SOCP).

Our service provides a range of systemic anti cancer therapies (SACT) to both adult and paediatric patients. The unit has recently implemented a state of the art IT compounding management system called Medcura’.

This is an exciting time in oncology pharmacy and you will be expected to integrate and make a positive contribution to the team who lead the pharmacy service to cancer care.


We have a friendly team of Registered Technicians, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Support workers who work closely together alongside a dedicated team of QA Technicians and Training Technicians.

The core hours of our service are Monday to Friday 08 : 30 -1700.


The post will involve working in our aseptic suite as part of a team of experienced technicians and support workers. You will be involved in the preparation of SACT, prioritising and organising workload, performing inspection checks on products and maintaining and developing the appropriate documentation required within an aseptic unit.

This is a new role where full technical training will be given in all relevant areas. This includes training towards the Pre and In Process checking accreditation and intrathecal training.


Excellent communication skills will be required, including the ability to provide both positive and constructive feedback to staff and to liaise with other health care professionals.

You need to have a strong attention to detail and show initiative. You need to be a good team player.

Previous aseptic experience would be an advantage, but an opportunity to develop will be provided to help your specialist skills to evolve.

Our department is moving towards 7 day working and all staff are required to contribute to extended hours, weekends, on call and Bank Holidays.
