To review and align buying specifications and support validation of raw materials used in products manufactured at the Basingstoke site.
This role has no budget or line management responsibilities.
As a Manufacturing Scientist in the Buying Specification Support role you will be accountable for :
Gathering current supplier specifications available - (Starting with TOP 156 SKUs Class A).
Identifying gaps between the supplier specification and the current buying specification. Liaise with the appropriate personnel if the technical specification or buying specification is missing to resolve.
Align the buying specification with current supplier capabilities.
Support and lead technical supplier discussion when alignment of specifications is required.
Align the buying specification with the QC test requirement.
Centralize buying specifications in SAP and implement through the change control process.
As a Manufacturing Scientist within the Sourcing Support sub-team you will also be jointly accountable for the following :
Contribution to and understanding of the New and Replacement Raw Materials Purchase Authority (PA) system.
Execution and planning of small PA projects in agreement with internal customer requirements.
Interpretation of internal inspection plans and accurate implementation of microbiological and chemical practical techniques
Execution of PA projects to agreed schedules ensuring timely delivery
Production of high quality laboratory reports to the specified format for PAs in a timely manner
Drawing conclusions from the data that are appropriate to the aims of the PA project
Presentation of information regarding PA projects in an appropriate style for use by various internal customers e.g. QA, Marketing, Purchasing and QC
Assisting in managing the workflow of PA projects, ensuring priority is given to the most critical activities
Producing progress reports in accordance with project timetables
Fulfilling the responsibilities of the position as defined in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Health, Safety and Environmental policies and associated Codes of Practice and actively promoting Health and Safety awareness
Experience, skills & abilities required :
Have a degree or equivalent in microbiology or a microbiology related topic
Competent in basic scientific techniques
Experience of techniques used in microbiology laboratories including microbiological testing of food or clinical samples would be desirable but not essential.
Proficiency with office software packages including Excel and Word is required.
