This ambitious vision is causing business intelligence to go through a huge transformation, becoming one of the key components to understanding our customers' needs.

The main aspects to this job will involve research into and evaluation of big data and business intelligence analytics.

What you'll be doing

  • Conduct and lead research activities in security and big data analysis, particularly for cyber security applications.
  • Contribute original work which leads to new solutions to security research problems in areas supporting BT’s strategic priorities, or new fields with potential impact on BT’s future business.
  • This will involve taking a lead in the research, design, implementation & trial of prototype systems and solutions.
  • Propose and pursue new opportunities for BT arising from research activities (e.g. new revenues, cost savings or improvements to customer service).
  • Report and present deliverables, key results and progress from research activities to cross business stakeholders.
  • Work in a team of technical experts and researchers both inside and external to BT
  • Contribute to a range of research development projects
  • Contribute original work leading to new solutions for business challenges facing BT
  • Build strong relationships with key people across BT and externally
  • Work under tight timescales to meet demonstration or trial deadlines Act as technical leader within areas of expertise
  • We'll also need to see these on your CV

  • PhD or MSc in Computer Science or related area with particular emphasis on Machine learning / deep learning and AI
  • Software development experience and applying software engineering principles, technologies and frameworks in developing reusable components as part of a team
  • Data Science related subjects such as statistics, machine learning, data mining and visualisation
  • Knowledge of Hadoop and related Big Data technologies (e.g. Apache Spark)
  • Web technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and ideally experience with libraries such as React, Bootstrap, D3.js, Leaflet
  • An inquiring mind with a preference for working within less defined boundaries, excellent creativity, self-motivation and good written and oral communication skills, and must be passionate about achieving excellent results and using some of the latest technology to create something truly novel.
  • Expertise in information and network security with some evidence of work in the area of data analysis, machine learning, data protection and cloud security, including expertise in development on a variety of cloud and virtualisation platforms.
