Development Underwriter Events
Working within the Specialty division you will responsible for driving the profitable growth of our Events business at a time when we have ambitious growth plans post pandemic.
You will join an established and high performing team who operate within a fast paced environment. You will need lots of energy to contribute to our winning team whilst driving your own relationships (internal & external) and pipeline.
You will be involved in product development, case underwriting and dealing with some of the largest clients and brokers in the events sector.
It is therefore essential that you are technically astute, have strong relationship management skills and are driven by an exceptional service ethic.
What you’ll be doing
Profitable case underwriting of new, mid-term and existing business
Tackling some of our largest, most internationally diverse clients, adhering to Lloyd’s minimum standards at all times when writing on syndicate capacity
Effectively negotiate with both internal and external parties
Broker and client visits as required on new and existing cases
Liaison with the UK regional offices to develop and write events business for that region
Write a targeted amount of new and existing business each year including cross-sell and up-sell
Optimise your conversion, profit and productivity whilst maintaining the target underwriting model
Product & wording development, keeping abreast of new risks and exposures within the sector to ensure Hiscox market leading position is maintained
Pro-active internal & external development :
Increase Hiscox’s events profile both internally and externally
Develop a strong new business pipeline; including individual large prospects
Forge strong professional relationships with our key brokers
Keep abreast of the competitive landscape from market moves to new product launches
Promote and develop events products in the regional offices, including training of local underwriters and brokers as required
A deep understanding of your brokers and the development opportunities in the events sector
Continually improve your broker and customer interactions using the Hiscox coaching framework
Superb service :
Be a trusted advisor for our brokers, become their go to Underwriter in the market
Person Specification :
Must have :
Ability to set and execute a clearly defined strategy to achieve our ambitions for this sector
Experienced Underwriter with a proven track record of successful underwriting
In depth knowledge of competitors, products and propositions within the market
In depth knowledge of the Events Sector and understanding of current and emerging trends that will influence Insurance Purchase
Degree qualified, although this is not a pre-requisite for an exceptional underwriter
ACII qualified, or progression towards this
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
Analytical proactive and creative, can think on their feet and outside the box’
Ability to distil complex issues into clear, simple strategies and plans.
The energy to play the long game (persistence / tenacity) and demonstrable drive, self-motivation and determination to achieve results
Consistently demonstrates behaviours in line with the core values of Hiscox
Strong market and competitor knowledge
Experience of developing new product and propositions
Extensive knowledge of underwriting data and historical performance of our underwriting specialities
Previous leadership experience, with the ability to deliver exceptional results through others
