Job IntroductionThe BBC Natural History Unit is looking for a Series Editor to take responsibility for the department’s flagship, much-

loved sister brands of Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch.The successful candidate will lead the delivery of multiple, annual, live television events themed television specials and a wide digital portfolio from live streamed web content to comprehensive social media conversations, audience community contributions and wider off-

air activity for the BBC throughout the year. The Watches brand represents the home of UK wildlife output on BBC2 and is well respected in UK wildlife science and conservation communities, as well as boasting a vibrant and loyal audience community of amateur naturalists and nature citizen scientists.

The Series Editor will lead this well-established, high-profile, innovative and truly multi-platform brand. Working to the NHU’s Executive Producer and Strategist for Topical and Interactive output, and working closely with the brand’s Series Producer and Production Manager.

They will lead the brand’s large and varied production team throughout the year and will be responsible for the brand’s overall day-

to day-development and delivery.Please note that on the BBC Career path framework this job is referred to as Executive Producer (Band E).

Role ResponsibilityThe Series Editor will be expected to develop, refresh and hold the brand vision, developing new strand ideas to expand the brand beyond the annual live events.

Working to the Executive Producer and Strategist for Topical and Interactive the successful candidate will ensure The Watches achieves its editorial ambitions and objectives by devising and developing brand strategy and seeking ways to collaborate, improve the production process and introduce new technology and ways of working.

Leading the development process to ensure content meets the needs of the Commissioner and other clients.To ensure good communications within the department, including appropriate team briefings on all editorial, programme strategy and commissioning procedures.

To be responsible for Health and Safety and risk management to ensure a safe working environment.To promote diversity both as an employer and in portrayal.

To be responsible for the management of staff, including recruitment, training, performance and development against clear priorities and objectives.

To build a strong and effective working partnership with Production management.To drives audience insight work, in order to own the programme strategy and interactive and multiplatform strategy of the wider brand.

To develop and co-ordinates off-air initiatives and partnerships with a wide range of both wildlife and broadcast partners.

To manage onscreen talent whilst also driving constant off-screen talent mapping and development. The Ideal CandidateClear evidence of working in live, or as live, fast turnaround production.

A superb track record of visual flair and strong story telling across programme output.The ability to build, support and facilitate large creative teams over long projects combined with an excellent track record in managing health and safety on complex projects in live or as live environments.

Proof of resilience and the ability to maintain personal effectiveness by managing own emotions in the face of pressure, set backs or when dealing with provocative situations.

Can demonstrate an approach to work that is characterised by commitment, motivation and energy.An excellent understanding of how to use new technology in a creative way to bring a distinctive signature look to the branding in a rapidly changing digital world.

Entrepreneurial flair and substantial experience managing external and internal partners and collaborators.Strong interpersonal skills that enable them to work well with Production Managers and Exec Producers, commissioning and other external co-

pro partners.An ability to get their message understood by adopting a range of styles, tools and techniques combined with the ability to create a vision and inspire others to realise it irrespective of circumstances as well as be responsible for the consequences of decisions.

Ability to present sound and well-reasoned arguments to convince others. Can draw from a range of strategies to persuade people that results in agreement or behaviour change.
