We are seeking a talented and ambitious Business Analyst to work with our engineering teams, analysts, data stewards and campaign managers.
This is a high-profile role, helping all teams to build a stronger understanding of business data, processes, and systems so that technology can help our business partners achieve their desired outcomes.
The successful candidate will have strong influencing skills, and ensure that proposals or arguments are supported by strong logic and a compelling business case.
The individual will have a knack for using data to identify patterns and form conclusions. Equipped with this, the Senior Business Analyst will be able to convey complex and technical business issues to diverse audiences.
Finally, the candidate will have experience identifying and documenting process improvements and functional specifications to ensure best practices are applied by business teams and technology.
About the Team
This is an exciting opportunity, within our progressive Marketing Technology Data and Analytics Squad. We are responsible for identifying, delivering and supporting marketing technology solutions across the entire Elsevier portfolio.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development of our new data and analytics platforms, enabling global marketing teams with faster insights and data-driven decision making.
Key responsibilities as a Senior Business Analyst :
Requirements analysis and definition work with business partners to elicit high quality requirements, capture business needs, and identify opportunities for business led delivery
Refine the product backlog analyse backlog items to define user stories with the relevant details that aid better delivery increments, squad effort estimation and business prioritisation
Own data solutions discovery perform early analysis and hands-on discovery to uncover value, identify blockers sooner, and enable the business to make better informed decisions
Manage and define the data release process and lifecycle work with the development team to define release cycle process and governance, produce process documentation, and take a pro-active approach to ensure process is followed
Create high quality documentation at pace prototypes, high-level designs, and succinct depictions of data flows and data pipelines
Lead all testing activities develop and maintain automated test scripts to aid QA, and manage UAT process by setting expectations to stakeholders to ensure timely sign-off
Be a trusted advisor develop relationships with senior stakeholders through effective communication and efficient, quality execution on projects
Identify gaps in data quality ensure that issues in data quality are captured and traced to source in order to support conversations with source owners to guide remediation plans
Support data catalog maintenance work with the central data steward and business unit data stewards to ensure data mappings are up-to-date and correctly documented
Architecture alignment identify solution interdependencies and commonalities to enhance standards and patterns across projects / solutions
Essential Skills & Experience required as a Senior Business Analyst
At least 5 years’ experience as a Business Analyst
Strong core technical business analysis skillset process mapping, requirements elicitation and workshop facilitation, including tools that facilitate the process e.
g MS Office, Draw.io, Confluence
SQL hands-on experience writing SQL scripts for ad-hoc analysis and data deep-dives
Agile use of Jira for requirements and delivery management as part of a Scrum team
Data models entity relationships, data cataloguing, data dictionary and data warehousing concepts
GitHub working knowledge of Git with an ability to leverage this as a collaboration tool
Amazon Web Services (AWS) breadth of knowledge of AWS resources and how they interact
Problem-solver, with experience to lead teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot / diagnose complex issues, and identify risks / impacts that facilitate management decision-making
Advanced communication (verbal and written) and customer services skills, with an ability to engage with senior management
Self-motivated and proactive, and able to work with minimal guidance
Desirable skills & experience
Certifications in business analysis practices (BCS practitioner, AgileBA, CSPO)
Exposure to Jenkins, Snowflake, AWS Athena, Knime, Talend, Collibra, and Python
Experience working with 3rd party providers
Familiarity with marketing processes, marketing teams and marketing analytics
Previous projects involving Tableau and data visualisation
