Job Summary

We have a new Radiology Department Assistant vacancy at our St Marys Treatment Centre (plus our Havant Diagnostics Centre)

This is a Part Time post - 16 hours per week

The salary is up to £15965 per annum pro rata

About St Marys...

Our clean, modern and comfortable hospital specialises in minor hand and foot surgery, eye surgery, general surgery, urology, colorectal surgery and investigative procedures using a camera (endoscopy).

We also provide a walk in or appointment based X-ray service, an echocardiogram service (heart scan) and an ultrasound service (abdomen, pelvis and testes scan).

We also offer community assessment services in audiology, dermatology, ear, nose and throat (ENT), ophthalmology and cardiac event monitoring.

Responsible To

Diagnostic Imaging Manager

Purpose of Role :

  • To work closely with the Diagnostic Manager, Sonographers, Radiographers and administration team, as part of an integrated team to assist with the delivery of safe, high quality services to patients and users of the service.
  • To demonstrate highly developed interpersonal patient management skills specifically to chaperone patients within the Diagnostic Department as required.
  • To undertake accurate entry of patient information into the Diagnostic Departments Information System.
  • To support the management of patient lists and ensure that wait times are adhered to.
  • To support patient flow both into and out of the Diagnostic Department, escorting patients from waiting areas into the appropriate imaging modality room and returning patients to the appropriate Department as required.
  • To effectively communicate to patients the process of all imaging procedures undertaken within the Diagnostic Department.
  • To perform regular stock checks and to re-order and update stock levels as appropriate ensuring that the Department is never left with inadequate stock of all consumable supplies.
  • To participate in scheduled imaging equipment cleaning rotas and to log activity appropriately.
  • To liaise effectively with all Departments and ensure that inter-departmental data flow is efficient and responsive at all times.
  • To answer the telephone promptly and deal with enquiries in a helpful and courteous manner, being aware of the need to maintain confidentiality at all times regarding patients and staff.
  • To verify the accuracy of patient details when they arrive in the Centre for their appointment.
  • Ensure that the appointment scheduling system is updated with any cancellations and re-book any patients that require re-appointing
  • To ensure that accurate messages are taken and passed on efficiently to the appropriate person.
  • To maintain good rapport / relations between internal and external customers of the Centre at all times.
  • To assist with the provision of data to external agencies and to provide all information that may be required by the Diagnostic Manager
  • Ensure patient’s appointments are scheduled within a timely manner, complying with contractual waiting time targets.
  • To provide a general administration service as required including photocopying, emailing via NHS net, filing and general correspondence as required.
  • To process reports from completed diagnostic examinations and send to the referring clinician.
  • Report untoward incidents such as complaints, operational problems, and equipment failures to the Patient Admin Lead or the Diagnostic Manager.
  • Skills & Experience

  • Good general education
  • Evidence of continual career development.
  • Experience of working within a primary or secondary healthcare environment.
  • To be able to work unsupervised.
  • Excellent patient management skills.
  • Numerate and literate.
  • Ability to work flexibly within the needs of the service including a willingness to work out of normal office hours including some evenings / weekends.
  • Computer literate.
  • Manual Handling skills.
