Chair in Economics (Labour Economics and Applied Microeconometrics)

The Department of Economics and Related Studies is ranked among the top 100 economics departments in the world and in the top 10 in the UK.

Core to the success of our Department has been the research undertaken in our Macroeconomics & Finance cluster and the MSc Finance.

This Chair appointment will provide a leadership role for these activities and consolidate and develop the international reputation of macroeconomic research conducted at York.

The Role

You will undertake a key role in the Department, strengthening the research work in the area of Applied Micro-Econometric research (AME) cluster.

The cluster has currently 10 active researchers and includes a mix of professors, lecturers and post-doc research associates.

You will also hold a strong commitment to the promotion of excellence in research, and in teaching and learning. You will be joining a collegiate environment led be a community of academics, dedicated to delivering high quality research, teaching and outreach.

Our research brings together interests in family and labour economics and strong concern for the robustness and methodological rigour of the research process.

Current areas of strength include child human capital, social networks, evaluation of policy interventions, parental investments, health and income inequalities, education, institutions, conflict and crime.

Key requirements :

  • PhD in relevant field
  • Outstanding and internationally recognised knowledge of relevant subject area
  • Ability to define, lead, manage and attract funds for internationally excellent research
  • Proven leadership and managerial skills
  • Ability to manage and interact with staff and students at all levels
  • Contribute to broadening the strategic development of the Department
  • Substantial publication record in leading peer-reviewed journals
  • Significant and sustained in securing research grants and other external funding
