    The Role

    After a successful period with an ongoing and increasing workload, we are recruiting a Senior Highway Structures Engineer for our West Midlands based Highways Design Services team.

    You will work within the Structures Design Team providing effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a range of schemes, which are based across the UK in a variety of locations and in liaison with other Amey teams.

    Alongside project delivery you will have line management responsibilities for c. 4-5 of our professionals. We welcome applications from engineers looking for a promotion opportunity and without prior experience of people management.

    You will be a key member of the over 30 strong structures team working with our 12 Chartered Engineers providing technical support and direction to our Graduate, Assistant and Civil Engineers together with experienced and less experienced CAD users.

    You are likely to be familiar with one or more structural analysis packages such as LUSAS or superSTRESS and associated software.

    A good working knowledge of BIM and its application would be an advantage.

    We seek a motivated Senior Structures Engineer with demonstrable experience of DMRB and other standards, experience in structures assessment and design for new works or maintenance.

    You will have a practical and progressive attitude to safety and scheme delivery with innovative ideas to develop efficiency and quality for our Clients.

    In a typical week you will :

  • Drive effective health and safety practices
  • Lead on the delivery of schemes designs aligned to the Amey Consulting Project Managers Handbook and Amey Consulting Design Manual, as well as providing support to the Design Team Leader within the design team on various design duties including : Planning, programming and cost estimationCarry out site surveys, inspections and supervision of junior colleagues on sitePrepare technical reports (e.
  • g. AIP, Feasibility / Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical documents)All aspect of structures design and assessmentReviewing design drawingsProduction of SpecificationsSupporting development of Engineers and TechniciansAll aspects of CDM compliance

  • Manage and co-ordinate team utilisation and productivity escalating issues as appropriate
  • Produce Safe Systems of Work in line with the Amey Zero Safety Code
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant technical standards
  • Work to programme to deliver specified designs on time
  • Prepare robust fee estimates and take through governance approvals. Once approved ensure team are aware of the budget and understand how we can best deliver to budget driving client value on each project.
  • Effectively manage change control and client expectations throughout delivery
  • Represent the business stream in multi-disciplined project teams
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the client and other relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure innovation and best practice is highlighted and adopted where practicable
  • Keep up to date with your own personal development to ensure the natural growth of the team
  • We want to hear from you if :

  • You have a Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject
  • You have Chartered or Incorporated status held with an appropriate professional body
  • You are an accredited trainer with a relevant professional institution, e.g. Delegated Engineer or Supervising Civil Engineer for the Institution of Civil Engineers
  • You are able to demonstrate developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Civil Engineer role or equivalent
  • You are able to demonstrate an ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
  • You are experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • You are experienced in the application of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
  • You have knowledge of technical governance procedures and how they are applied within a consulting engineering environment
