The opportunity

Applicants for Senior Solicitor, Commercial roles will be expected to be capable of delivering excellence in relation to project management, client relationship management, quality processes, pricing (including billing, where required) and technology relating to our commercial and IT contracts capability.

Candidates are likely to have developed as a specialist in contract review and negotiation, having trained and gained extensive experience in private practice, but with in-

house experience also being desirable. Experience in the technology, IT services, telecommunications and / or media sector is also particularly desirable.

You will be comfortable applying what you know to creative and varied projects. This role requires an entrepreneurial mind-

set and a flexible and responsive approach. You will scope and set-up new matters and conduct fee earning work directly as well as supervising the team.

You are also likely to be asked to assist in preparing pitch documents and attend client presentations.

You will have a deeply client-focused approach and be ready to apply that experience to our transactional practice where we work closely with internal clients (i.

e. you will be confident and comfortable liaising with partners around the organisation) and you will often work directly with our external clients including from their offices from time to time.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and negotiate transactions with limited supervision.
  • Liaise directly with clients on matters and potential new projects and / or workstreams.
  • Support with the development of workflow for specific projects, including drafting process manuals / negotiation guides and supporting our instructing teams and clients with the drafting of project instructions.
  • Support with pricing at the outset of a matter and then assist in managing costs and billing throughout.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant areas of law, and is an "expert" in relation to their specialist areas of practice.
  • Skills, experience and qualifications

    Essential

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales (but other common law jurisdictions will be considered).
  • 3 to 5 year's PQE, gained in the commercial practice area.
  • High level of attention to detail, but can also step back from the detail and see risks, opportunities and trends
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex issues, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong analytical ability, coupled with sound judgement to balance multiple factors and solve complex problems.
  • Strong IT literacy, including an aptitude for learning (and becoming proficient in) the use of software and IT applications, for example using AI tools, documentation automation technology etc.
  • Experience of working in a commercial legal environment, ideally a minimum of 3 years' experience in private practice, with experience of working as part of an in-
  • house legal team also desirable.
