We have a vacancy for a permanent Band 3 Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the Inpatient Surgery and Cancer Therapy Team.

The post holder will be required to work with General Surgery patients including lower limb amputees, and with patients on the Women’s Health wards.

Occasional work is required on the Oncology wards.

Under the direction of qualified staff, the post holder will be required to assist with discharge planning and rehabilitation activities, such as transfer practices, washing and dressing, kitchen practices and safe wheelchair use.

Work is mostly ward based, but there is also a requirement to deliver and fit items of equipment in patient’s homes, on occasions, and to complete lone access visits as needed.

While the primary focus of the post is working as an Occupational Therapy assistant, the role also has a generic therapy aspect, with some physiotherapy assistant work required with the amputee patients.

Some basic admin and inventory work will also be required. The post involves manual handling of patients and equipment.

The post holder will be supported by experienced qualified staff and encouraged to develop their own specialist skills, knowledge and competence through participation, supervision and training.

Substantial experience is required, working clinically in an acute ward NHS setting is essential. A full driving licence is desirable but not essential.

Experience working in a therapy department is desirable but not essential.

The working hours are Monday Friday 8.30 -16.30 for 37.5 hours per week. Some bank holiday work will be required. Some weekend work may be required in the future.
