The role holder will operate within Next Generation Services ISCF Challenge team, which includes team members from both the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Innovate UK.
The Next Generation Services Challenge is a £20m programme aimed at supporting the Professional Business Services and Financial Services sectors in their development and adoption of AI and Data technologies.
The current programme is looking specifically at Insurance, Accountancy and Legal services though the team is now looking into other areas of Professional Business and Financial Services for a potential follow on programme.
The UK is a leader in these sectors and they are a key part of our economy, however, like many other areas of the economy, the expanding collection and use of data and the emergence of AI and related technologies has the potential to disrupt these sectors and allow other regions to displace our global position.
These sectors have also not historically been seen as innovators so a key aspect of the programme is to develop the R&D capacity and capability.
Job Purpose :
As an Innovation Lead, the role holder will be responsible for Innovate UK activity within the Next Generation Services Challenge, identifying areas of opportunity for innovation, ensuring projects are appropriately supported, developed and exploited by UK business to generate growth and in response to challenges within the Professional and Financial sectors.

Person Specification :
This position requires a person with commercial awareness who can manage competing priorities and a complex stakeholder environment.
The role holder will need to make sense of multiple data sources, to establish underlying patterns and articulate a clear and compelling vision of what needs to be done.
A good team player, willing to share knowledge with others and to learn from them. Able to self-start when needed.

Travel Requirements :
There will a requirement to travel, mostly national, and there is some flexibility in this. Innovate UK staff make extensive use of telepresence tools for meetings to minimise unnecessary travel.
Given the current Covid19 lockdown and travel restrictions, this role will be home based initially and make extensive use of telepresence tools for meetings, outreach, and engagement.
In normal circumstances, the role holder will need to work in the Swindon office once a week and may have four to six nights away from home per month on average to attend conferences and events.
Post lockdown, Innovate UK staff will continue to make extensive use of telepresence tools for meetings to minimise unnecessary travel.
