Newton Investment Management is one of BNY Mellon's Investment Management specialists, with an expertise in managing portfolios built with deeply researched ideas from our investors in the UK, US, and Asia.

The research associate program at Newton exists to develop entry-level investors into the next generation of senior decision-makers at Newton.

Research associates work collaboratively with senior investors across Newton, as well as each other, on a variety of analytical tasks.

Roughly 20% of an associate's time is spent on personal development, through training, seminars, and practice with the goal of honing forecasting skills and being promoted to research analyst within two to three years.

The associate curriculum includes :

  • Accounting and financial modeling.
  • Forecasting and statistical analysis.
  • Data visualization and persuasive writing.
  • No specific domain expertise is required, but all successful candidates must demonstrate intellectual curiosity, competence with logical reasoning, a strong work ethic, and a kind, collaborative approach to work.

    The Associate will become an expert in the specific areas needing support, and will also cover a broad range of products, markets, and industries.

    The role is extremely helpful in generating actionable information and data, and provide that information and accurate analysis to decision makers.

    This position requires a high level of intellectual curiosity, the ability to work independently, and with minimal direction.

    Important skills for the role will include the ability to gather large amounts of information, decipher what is important and communicate that information in a timely and succinct manner.

    Responsible for performing primary research as part of the investment process.

    Responsibilities may include

    Creating and updating financial models for companies across the globe.

    Contributing to a strong, collaborative associate team culture across offices.

    Performing channel checks with industry contacts, analyzing industry trends, sizing product markets, and strategic analyses of various companies to help determine their competitive positions on behalf of senior investors to drive proprietary forecasts.

    Responsible for gathering large amounts of information, deciphering what is important and communicating that information in a timely and succinct manner.

    Demonstrating a strong understanding of mathematical and basic statistical concepts is important to present findings concisely.

    Conduct, plan, gather, and organize research from primary and secondary sources on businesses, markets, and investments.

    Channel checks with industry contacts, industry trend analyzation, product market sizing, information gathering, and strategic analysis of various companies to help determine their competitive positions.

    Organize and analyze researched material after gathering data in order to prepare written reports for the research team.

    Conduct findings presentations on data gathered

    REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor s degree is required.

    0 - 2 years experience.

    Mathematical and Statistical background preferred but not required.
