Job Title : Collection Management Trainee

Location : RHS Libraries, Wisley

Salary : £17,000 per annum

Hours : 35 hours per week

Contract : 12 month Fixed Term Contract

We are seeking to appoint a Collection Management Trainee, based at our garden at RHS Wisley in Surrey and, on occasion, our Library in London.

The post is to help us deliver our Heritage Lottery Funded Library Conservation Plan for RHS Wisley Garden in Surrey.

This paid trainee position is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in a career in heritage and collections management.

The 12-month traineeship will offer hands on experience of caring for a collection of artefacts and assistance with photographic collections relating to horticulture and the history of the RHS.

RHS Libraries care for the world’s most comprehensive collection of horticultural literature from the 16th century to the present day and a broad range of material associated with the history of the RHS itself.

The library collections were awarded Designated Status in 2011.

The HF funded role will assist the Heritage Collections Manager to document, accession and create basic catalogue records for our artefacts collections.

A key role with be to assist with the preparation of artefacts selected to go on display at our new garden interpretation centre at RHS Wisley garden.

The post holder will also assist with repackaging a documentation of our historical collections of photographs and negatives, and conduct condition audits.

The trainee will be given training in object handling, packaging and documentation and using the CALM collection management system.

The traineeship also includes attendance at the annual Collections Trust Conference.
