Were recruiting for a Senior Backend Engineer to deliver a backend system that takes over 600k bookings a month from over 3.5 million active users.
About the role
This position is all about building a backend that delivers new tools and products to 3.5 million users, building solutions that ensure our customers experience a world-class service from our products.
Were currently processing 600,000 transactions a month, and in the past 12 months have taken more in terms of bookings than in the entire 12 years beforehand, so the growth is considerable.
We'll look for you to grow and develop as an engineer. You'll have autonomy to find innovative solutions and make decisions independently, sharing your knowledge with the team and mentoring our junior engineers.
About our tech stack
We use Laravel 5.8 and PHP 7.3 as our daily drivers. Our current architecture is fairly monolithic, predominantly sat in Laravel as our main API and remnants of legacy desktop.
We have a bunch of surrounding services written in Go, Java, Python and Node also, state is held in Redis, MySQL and PostgreSQL.
As we scale we recognise that our architecture will need to change and so we are planning to embark shortly on a refactor into microservices.
We will be using Golang and Laravel to do this as we try and standardise the backend stack.
We operate in a hybrid cloud environment, utilising AWS and Google, and our infrastructure is cloud native - we have recently completed our migration of our entire production stack into kubernetes and docker.
We work to agile methodologies. Peer review of work is expected from all engineers, and we work in a test driven fashion as often it allows, but understand sometimes we might need to kick some code about for a bit before weve got the right implementation then refactor and pin in test.
We are big on pair programming and encourage it wherever possible.
