The Legal team are now seeking a maternity cover for the role of Commercial Legal Counsel to join the team for up to a 12-month fixed term basis, based in our offices in Westfield London, W12 (though the team are currently working remotely).

You will provide support to the YNAP global business and our various international subsidiaries. The Commercial Legal Counsel will support the Head of Legal and the existing commercial legal team.

The Role : The Commercial Legal Counsel will be involved in the provision of practical, commercial, solution-driven advice on a wide variety of general commercial issues including marketing, e-commerce, outsourcing, internet / new media, data protection, IT, contract and consumer law.

The role will support our teams in the UK as well as the USA and Asia Pacific. You will need to have a strong, broad-ranging commercial background, ideally with a strong focus on e-commerce, data protection, advertising and marketing experience and some experience in technology would be an advantage.

The Commercial Legal Counsel should be enthusiastic, proactive and be comfortable working on projects with cross-functional business teams as well as being experienced at working with minimal supervision.

The role is suited to a confident individual who is comfortable working in a fast-moving e-commerce environment and looking for a challenging commercial role.

You will be an English qualified lawyer with around three years’ experience (reference to years’ experience is a guide suitable candidates will be considered regardless of years’ experience).

Retail or e-commerce sector experience will be an advantage. You will be involved a wide variety of work, including but not limited to : Drafting and advising on a variety of commercial agreements, such as marketing and PR agreements, event sponsorship agreements, competition and promotion T&Cs, charitable commercial participation agreements, supply / purchase contracts, services agreements (including software agreements), venue hire agreements, influencer and talent contribution agreements, affiliate contracts and brand collaboration agreements.

Includes drafting, updating and maintaining contract templates. E-Commerce work, including advising on regulatory requirements, website design requirements, transactional website requirements, website terms and conditions, insolvency issues, consumer law and customer service issues, etc.

Data protection work, including liaising with the internal Privacy team and advising on data protection principles in the context of GDPR, information security requirements, direct marketing rules, online behavioural advertising, cookies, etc.

Advertising and marketing work, including events, competitions and promotions and advice on advertising law and codes of practice.

Litigation, including proactively managing small claims which may come in from time to time. You must complement the small, dedicated, collaborative and passionate, existing in-house team, currently made up of the Head of Legal, a mid-level legal counsel and a paralegal.

This role will report into the Head of Legal. You will also have the ability to delegate appropriate work to the paralegal, but then supporting the paralegal through that and reviewing the work will be required.

A good team spirit and a practical and commercial approach to problem solving are essential. You Have : A qualification to practice law in England and Wales (or equivalent) Extensive demonstrable commercial legal experience at 3years’ PQE level (reference to years’ experience is a guide suitable candidates will be considered regardless of years’ experience) Ideally have completed at least one 6 month secondment in commerce and industry or have previous in-house experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills A strong analytical mind, an aptitude for problem solving and excellent drafting skills Demonstrable ability to proactively develop internal business relationships Confidence to be a team player with an encompassing attitude Experience to exercise commercial and pragmatic judgment in the advice given and solutions provided Motivated, enthusiastic and has a "can do" attitude Excellent attention to detail Proven ability to work with minimal supervision Demonstrable experience of working to tight deadlines and for demanding stakeholders, and ability to prioritise workload accordingly A mindset to take initiative and be pro-active on addressing new matters or challenges Strong experience in handling a high volume of activity involving multiple projects simultaneously A professional and culturally sensitive work ethic Ideally have knowledge of at least one other European language (preferably Italian).
