Aberystwyth University is seeking a Head of Planning. Under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Elizabeth Treasure, the University is in the throes of an impressive turnaround.
It is in the final stages of its Sustainability Implementation Plan and has just launched a new and ambitious 5-year Strategic Plan.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Corporate Services, the postholder will provide a senior leadership role across all activities relating to planning, budgeting, and forecasting, and will manage the University’s relationships with the regulatory authorities.
The new Head of Planning will be tasked with maintaining the day-to-day effectiveness of a planning function which is expected to drive and support institutional performance.
A priority will be the operational delivery of the University’s Strategic Plan and agreed Key Performance Indicators. Candidates will be expected to lead on key strategic projects, and respond quickly to the rapidly changing external economic and political environment.
The appointee will head up a critical function that significantly contributes to the overall performance of the University.
The postholder will be expected to present to Council as required.
The University seeks an outstanding individual, ideally with experience of planning in the HE sector. Candidates must be expert at understanding and analysing data and be skilled at interpreting and communicating it for non-
Planners. They must have strong verbal as well as numeracy skills. Most important will be well-honed communication skills, a strong customer service ethos and positive team leadership approach.
They must evidence superb people skills with the ability to engage with a range of academic and professional service functions across the institution and with Welsh Government.
A sound awareness of national policy and sector developments, as well as a good understanding of financial aspects of higher education are key, as is the ability to lead and motivate a high-calibre team.
Salary will be made within the Grade 10 scale
