What you will be doing

You will join the team that works well together to provide care for people with acute mental health conditions. Whether you have been a Support Worker or a Care Worker, you will utilise your experience to support people to lead a valued and fulfilled life.

As a Senior Healthcare Assistant, you'll support the Practice Nurse for one shift a week as the Physical Health Champion within your extended capacity.

This will see you request GP summaries, arranging appointments, deliver training sessions, recording service user’s height and weight during admission, ECG, Bloods and PCR testing.

You'll have two years of experience within a similar setting and an understanding of violence and aggression in a healthcare or social care environment.

Your Physical Health Campion responsibilities will run alongside your day-to-day duties as a Healthcare Assistant. This doesn’t mean you will have the workload of two people, but rather that you’ll put on different hats as you support adults with mental health and the wider service.

It can be quite a challenging environment at times, so a positive attitude, compassion, resilience and vigilance are important.

But it is hugely rewarding to see people improve; being able to do something today that they couldn’t do last week because of you.

Where you will be working

Location : Pinhoe View, College Way, Exeter, EX1 3PZ

Pinhoe View is a new purpose-built facility where a range of mental health services are provided for adults with acute mental health conditions across two wards and eight individual flats.

The 24-hour acute inpatient service is supported by a full multidisciplinary team, which specialises in the assessment, treatment and stabilisation of people suffering from a significant mental health episode and in crisis.

You will work shift patterns including weekends, bank holidays and nights.

Standard shifts are 12 hours a day, working 3 days one week, 4 days the next.
