Assistant Project Manager
Would you like to be part of a high profile andexpanding business unit? We currently have a vacancy for an Assistant Project Manager at our site in Portsmouth.
As an Assistant Project Manager, you will be in a fast-paced role directly responsible for managing and delivering the contract and will report to and support the Support Contracts Project Manager who leads the overall delivery.
This is a fast moving repair business and requires the candidate to be agile. They will also need strong planning skills, financial control and bring commercial acumen to the role to ensure the contract operates successfully.
This role will provide you with an exciting opportunity to gain further exposure across the business, and be part of the growing Boats Business which is responsible for undertaking design, build and maintenance of a range of small boats that are owned and operated by the MOD, Coast Guards and Police Forces internationally.
The Boats Sector has three strands : support, new build and autonomy.
Your main responsibilities as an Assistant Project Manager will involve :
Ensuring the customer is delighted with contract performance
Managing all elements of the MOD support contract
Managing all fast-moving operational requirements (OPDEFS), spares, stock, etc.
Taking careful financial management responsibility and control of contract
Growing your areas of the contract by attracting new work through dialogue with customers and innovative small proposals
Your skills and qualifications :
Cost control of projects
Significant planning skills including the use of MS Project
Strong Project Management experience demonstrated in a professional role
Knowledge and experience of Project Management governance and assurance processes
Extensive, expert level understanding of one or more Project Management capability development tools techniques and practices
Experience of carrying out complex project tasks without supervision and delivering projects to a high standard
University Degree or relevant experience
APM Project Management qualification or equivalent
Knowledge of Boats and the Boats Business

You will also have strong planning and financial control skills and commercial acumen to ensure the contract operates successfully.
