Our scientists and engineers are working with partners around the globe to develop fusion as a new source of clean energy for tomorrow s power stations.

The Radioactive waste team within the Waste Services Section is responsible for the on-site collection, storage, assay and packaging for off-

site disposal of all of the CCFE s potentially radioactive wastes. The Waste Handling Facilities comprise of secure storage areas, drummed waste processing areas and bulk waste processing areas.

We are seeking a Lead Operator to join the Waste Services Section to lead a small team of 6 operators processing and packaging potentially radioactive wastes.

The main responsibilities of the role will include :

  • Oversee effective and safe implementation of written and verbal instructions given by the facility supervisor.
  • Act as an interface between the facility supervisors and the waste processing teams. Provide feedback on the progress of task based projects to the section leader via the facility supervisors.
  • To deputise for the facility supervisors during periods of absence

    U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research.

    Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built.

    Knowledge skills and experience

    Essential- Experience of waste processing

  • Understanding of contamination control practices
  • Educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent
  • Have demonstrable people management skills.
  • Desirable- Mechanical or plant experience

  • Experience of RPE / PPE
  • Special requirements : - Available to work shifts

  • Able to become a Classified Beryllium and Radiation worker
  • Willing to train to become Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS)
