Multimedia Manager (The Lancet)

PART TIME (14 hours a week)

As a key member of The Lancet's communications team, the Multimedia Manager will work across The Lancet's portfolio to deliver multimedia projects, including infographic and video content to promote our journals' content.

As part of the Marketing and Communications Department, in close collaboration with authors and our editorial team, you will develop and implement the multimedia strategy for The Lancet group.

This is a part time role (14 hours a week), based in The Lancet’s offices in London Wall (UK).

Main activities and responsibilities

  • Design : design simple graphics and templates on a short turnaround time, working with colleagues in the Editorial and Communications teams and authors;
  • identify and build relationships with a range of external suppliers for The Lancet to work with.

  • Infographics : working with the wider Communications and Editorial teams to identify potential content for infographics;
  • develop wireframes for infographics; commission external designers where needed; work with authors and editors to ensure accurate and timely delivery of high quality graphics;
  • collaborate with the Communications and Marketing teams to ensure wide dissemination.

  • Video : manage The Lancet's Youtube channel; work with the wider Communications and Editorial teams to identify potential video content;
  • set standards and guidance for authors; develop storyboards; work with external producers, authors and editors to ensure timely delivery of high quality video content;
  • collaborate with the Communications and Marketing teams to ensure wide dissemination.

  • Strategy : review the infographics and video content produced by The Lancet using data, insights and feedback where appropriate;
  • work with the Head of Media & Communications to set out a framework for multimedia development at The Lancet, ensuring the team can meet the needs of an expanding portfolio of journals.

    Skills and experience required

  • Knowledge / experience of editing software (images, graphics, video)
  • Basic video operating skills (eg, filming interviews)
  • Publishing management, i.e. video upload and compression / formatting, metadata, obtaining correct permissions
  • Strong narrative skills (eg story development, script writing and editing)
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Understanding of design principles
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Strong interest in science and health research
  • Experience in multimedia (ideally in a scientific / health setting)
