Help us in providing finance support, analysis and business partnering across our wider Markel Wholesale division.

The Finance team at Markel International is varied and we are responsible for recording financial transactions, providing financial information to the Markel Corporation, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory reporting obligations, planning and forecasting future performance and providing accurate financial performance information to key decision makers.

Finance is structured into three main operational areas; Financial & Regulatory Reporting, Reinsurance & Credit Control & FP&A and Business Partnering.

The Assistant Finance Business Partner will be an important part of the wider team within Finance, responsible for assisting the Head of Finance in providing financial support to the Wholesale business.

You’ll work closely with both the Markel International finance team and the Wholesale business units as part of a Wholesale business partnering team of three and a Markel International business partnering team of six people.

What you’ll be doing :

Provide finance function support and financial analysis to the Wholesale division.

Work closely with the Markel Global Analyst team (US based) to produce important metrics and associated analysis in an accurate and timely fashion.

Financial analysis to enable a better understanding of the reported US GAAP results for both underwriting and services, primarily by providing insight into variances to plan.

Support the business in their business planning process, including written strategic business plans and GAAP planning.

Assisting each of the 6 divisions with relevant support and data ahead of the Combined Ratio Meetings.

Provide support as required to assist the Wholesale division in achieving their targets in relation to our business growth initiative.

Financial analysis and support to the Wholesale overseas offices primarily through liaison and support with our Singapore office.

Ad-hoc activities as required, for example on supporting M&A activity, cover holder analysis or other business related support.

What we’re looking for :

Have a strong analytical mind-set and excellent Excel skills. Skills using other data analytic tools would be very useful.

Demonstrate experience of working in the non-life insurance industry.

Be able to demonstrate an understanding of technical insurance accounting skills, combined with the ability to work closely with a very broad range of partners.

Demonstrate a desire to learn and progress in the organisation. We are looking for someone with the right attitude and an inquisitive personality!

Be pro-active in nature with the ability to engage with many stakeholders of varying levels. Business facing finance experience is desirable.

Be reliable and take self-responsibility to respond in a timely fashion to business requests.

Work closely with other parts of Finance, including helping others (and vis versa), as and when needed.

You might be a graduate with a few years finance experience looking to progress in a business facing role.
