An exciting opportunity for a Team Leader has become available at our Kings Norton facility. The successful Candidate will be responsible for managing the performance of people and processes in a designated production area of a transparency manufacturing plant and facilitating all production and information flows.
Additional duties include :
Manage employee relations working within GKN procedures and ensure effective interface between management team and employees
Support Value Stream Manager in all business aspects
Maintain flexibility in line with business needs
Reporting Relationships :
Reports to Value Stream Manager
Up to 25 direct reports (Cell Leaders and Production Operatives)
Peer relationships with functional teams (including MEQ, HR, HSE, Supply Chain, Finance, CI)
Key Deliverables :
Accountable for the quality of products and equipment on site.
Accountable for ensuring all direct reports are trained competently.
Responsible for producing local Capacity and Production plans
Meet customer demand through driving the workforce to deliver on time products using motivational techniques.
Escalation or resolution of potential shortages (materials, consumables etc.) with recovery plans to mitigate impact to delivery schedule adherence (DSA)
Accountable for minimising all costs, including scrap, labour and consumables.
Value stream mapping.
Understand and deliver CI objectives to improve scrap rate and promote 5S throughout department.
Application of lean tools.
Lead on production related improvements utilising MEQ support.
Act as key communicator for the shift, cascading information effectively and providing appropriate feedback.
Actively resolve issues raised using standard model of GKN leadership behaviour, where appropriate.
Continuously coach and develop team members to ensure that team targets are achieved : enhancing a people focussed environment.
Lead and sponsor improvement activities, aligned with future state continuous improvement plans.
Promote and deliver employee involvement (EI) through behavioural leadership.

Previous experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing environment.
Understanding and ability to apply lean business and manufacturing processes.

Experience with using tools such as standard work, diary management, performance reviews, ERP system, and elemental training plans.
Degree educated in Science or Engineering disciple, desired but not essential.
