What do our tax teams do?
Tax is a fact of life it’sdeducted from our wages, added to things we buy, paid by companies and it'srarely out of the news headlines these days.
But a career in tax isn’t justabout numbers. It’s about working with people and businesses to reallyunderstand what they want to achieve and to make sure that tax doesn’t becomean obstacle to their long-term goals.
We advise individuals, familiesand their related trusts and companies, which hold their wealth, primarily ontax issues. We help them meet their tax reporting obligations and advise themon how to structure their assets in a tax efficient manner.
Understanding theclient, their families and their long term objectives is crucial, as is workingalongside their bankers, trustees and legal advisers to ensure that all advice ispart of a cohesive plan.
We advise companies of all sizesand from all sectors of business, helping them comply with the complex UK taxregime and also, in many cases, the tax regime of several overseas territories.
Getting involved with compliance work will allow you to get to know yourclients’ businesses well, and therefore we will expect you to spotopportunities for them to benefit from tax incentives or to avoid potentiallycostly pitfalls.
Tax compliance and advising on a company’s tax affairs are animportant part of all major corporate strategies and RSM can help them get thisright.
Indirect Taxes are applied toall transactions, from coffee to car insurance, and they impact businessesacross all industries.
Indirect Tax case law and legislation across the worldchanges regularly. As a result, our clients’ needs and concerns are also oftenchanging meaning our work is challenging and varied with new ideas andopportunities to discuss.
In our People Advisory Services, our team advises companies and individuals ona whole host of matters from remuneration planning and share incentive schemesto the interaction of global taxes when companies move people from onejurisdiction to another.
Getting company tax compliance obligations right inrespect of PAYE and national insurance contributions is an important part ofthe job as well as individual tax return filing requirements including thejurisdiction they may need to comply to.
Your role involves regularlycoordinating with our RSM International network and as part of the team, youwill need to understand domestic employment taxes regulations and theinteraction of these with international tax treaties and social securitylegislation.

Tax apprentices at RSM gainhands-on experience, have access to on-the-job mentoring and train towards aprofessional qualification, starting with the ATT qualification.
We arecommitted to ensuring that the route through to qualification is the best foryou as an individual and maximises your potential.
Alongside your technicaltraining, you will attend internal developmental training courses to ensure youhave the professional and personal skills to become a trusted tax advisor.
Asyou come towards the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have a deepunderstanding of Tax. This will be reflected in the complexity of your clientportfolio and your responsibilities, including mentoring more junior members ofthe team.
What we look for
Tax is atechnically demanding discipline, so we look for school leavers who are alwaysup for a challenge and are quick to grasp new subjects.
While you don’t have tobe a maths genius, you will need to be comfortable with numbers. At RSM, you’llbe helping a big range of clients - from wealthy individuals to majormultinationals - so it’s important that you’re adaptable.
You’ll often need toexplain complex technical information during client meetings and in writtenreports, so we’re looking for school leavers with excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills.
We also look for team players who enjoy interacting withothers and are curious about how businesses work. If that sounds like you, weknow you’ll enjoy being part of our team.
