Job Summary

To provide an efficient and effective claims service which meets the identified needs of customers and which supports the business plan by handling and coordinating to the highest technical standard claim related duties, in order to achieve for cedants and the Company the most cost effective settlement of those claims consistent with SCOR’s claims handling philosophy and our customer focused approach.

As a member of SCOR Global P&C’s worldwide Claims Department the Claims Adjuster will

  • Adjust Reinsurance Treaty Claims emanating from the business primarily underwritten in London
  • Comply with reporting and control duties towards Claims Management
  • Key duties and responsibilities

  • Evaluating, developing, reporting on and resolving complex and / or higher value individual claims, ensuring Claims Manager and Underwriters are advised of any contractual / legal issues prior to proceeding
  • Assessing the accuracy of advised case reserves, using SCOR’s Personal Injury Database and applying any Additional Case Reserves, if required and when appropriate.
  • Assist with the management and quarterly assessment of Additional Case Reserves, for both unsettled Bodily injury claims and PPOs.
  • Approving financial transactions on claims within his / her authority
  • Collaborating and assisting in account management, often with other internal department representatives
  • Analyse loss and expense trends on loss portfolios and assist in the development and implementation of plans to improve results
  • Assess case reserves using SCOR’s Personal Injury Database and
  • Assisting in the preparation of claim reviews and visits under the instruction of Claims Manager, providing detailed oversight of the cedants claims process and advised losses together with marketing support relating to clients and brokers.
  • Attendance will be required at Market Presentations and audits when determined and appropriate.
  • Anticipate client needs and expectations and deliver superior customer service
  • Work effectively with others within the Claims department, particularly with other Claim Experts / Managers, Claims Operations and those within the Technical Accounting, to ensure prompt turnaround and response to clients
  • Close liaison with Technical Accounting, ensuring clients’ needs are fully understood. Effectively work as a bridge’ between TA and Claims teams, ensuring there is a close alignment of interests and a strong collaborative working relationship between all parties
  • Work closely and effectively with other internal stakeholders including Underwriters and Actuarial, providing support and insight when required and appropriate
  • Liaise and support the claims departments in other SCOR EMEA hubs / branches as required and appropriate
  • Perform detailed research and analysis on individual topics, as directed by Senior Claims Management, and produce report / s detailing findings and making recommendations when required and appropriate
  • Assist in the analysis and reporting of large complex losses and events, including assisting in the co-ordination / production of LLNs, ensuring accuracy of advised figures especially where an accumulation of exposures has been identified
  • Assist in broad analysis of the claims portfolio, including monitoring of potential exposures ( watchlist’) and reviewing appropriateness of historical reserves ( statics’)
  • Monitoring and quarterly testing of ICS controls
  • Keep abreast of claim and industry developments / trends in order to maintain a high level of expertise
  • Assist in ensuring that globally aligned processes and procedures are adhered to, identifying opportunities for improvements, thereby enabling a move towards a more aligned and efficient operating environment
  • Liaise and support the claims departments in other SCOR EMEA hubs / branches as required and appropriate
  • Demonstrate commitment for achieving team objectives and plan and adjust work activities accordingly
  • Participate in projects as required
  • Manage company resources responsibly and effectively
  • Required experience and competencies

    Essential Experience

  • Good technical knowledge of legal principles, policy wordings and insurance market practice relevant to the handling and reserving of claims;
  • Minimum 5 years of combined insurance / reinsurance claims handling experience;
  • Good working knowledge and experience of local and exposed territories;
  • Good IT skills including Word, Excel and Power Point.

  • Required education

  • University degree or equivalent further educational qualification from a recognised university or college or alternatively, solid working experience in the industry;
  • Relevant professional qualification (preferred but not essential);
  • Further vocational training as appropriate
