About the Role

As part of its ongoing development Gamma is increasingly delivering converged voice and data network solutions through its channel and direct business units.

Reporting to the Technical Service Centre Manager, this is a hands-on engineering position supporting Gamma’s data products from broadband and ethernet through to MPLS.

We are looking for a technically competent individual who has experience of supporting complex voice and data networks. The role involves managing in-life service requests and incidents, detailing and implementing customer requested changes.

The successful candidate will be someone who has experience of managing bespoke WAN solutions and who can communicate at both a technical and management level through telephone calls, email and face to face meetings.

You will be expected to be available to be part of the on-call’ rota supporting Gamma out of hours.

About You

Applicants will typically be qualified to degree level in an engineering or related technical discipline and have experience in a technical customer facing role in an telecommunications environment.

A preferred requirement is to hold a current CCNA qualification and a demonstrable understanding of the processes / tools employed for diagnosing in-service problems

You will be a driven and motivated individual with experience supporting Cisco technologies, other vendor experience would be a bonus.

  • You’ll have previous experience in an SLA driven 2nd / 3rd line support role, ideally within a telecomms environment.
  • You’ll have experience of routing protocols, internal and external, specifically BGP with a clear understanding of how the Internet is structured in terms of peering and transit relationships
  • Practical experience of supporting and troubleshooting MPLS and complex WAN solutions. in a Cisco environment, good understanding of MP-BGP, VRF’s.
  • Sound experience of supporting DSL variants, Fibre, EFM and GEA Ethernet.
  • Confident in the use of network analysis and packet-sniffing tools
  • Configuring, deploying and troubleshooting QoS enabled networks to support converged data and voice networks
  • You’ll have advanced knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls
  • Knowledge of core routing devices to support MPLS, VPN, e.g. Redback, Juniper MX series, Cisco series
  • Good understanding of networking security concepts, practical firewall experience (Palo Alto networks, Fortinet)
  • Desirable

  • Experience of Palo Alto or Fortinet firewalls
  • Experience of Juniper networks, Transmode devices and optical transmission
  • CCNP R+S, CCNA-SP, CCNA-Sec
  • Experience of implementing wireless solutions, for example Miraki
