  • You will play a key role in the delivery of this through developing and maintaining strong relationships with residents, voluntary and community sector partners as well as emerging grassroots groups;
  • working towards increasing community participation and local activism.

    Main duties of the job

  • This role calls for an experienced and ambitious leader who can energetically enable the delivery of Islington’s new Community Partnerships Model at a locality level;
  • its vision and approach, and to successfully manage a locality-based team and resources.

    You will build strong relationships with community partners, Councillors and departments to translate the vision into a compelling narrative and plan that staff, partners and the community can all unite behind and work together towards delivering.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The Community Partnerships Locality Lead is responsible for oversight and delivery of the Community Partnerships model through a comprehensive programme for strengthening communities in order to deliver social outcomes;
  • reduce demand through greater local resilience and provide leadership in community engagement, community development and asset based working.

    You will establish and lead the approach for :

  • delivery of the Community Partnership approach, to facilitate greater connection to the local area, including intelligence, relationships and coordination
  • a new comprehensive Community Partnerships programme for strengthening communities bringing together resources to deliver the locality based offer
  • growing community capacity through targeted community led ventures via a collaborative approach to working with the voluntary and community sector as well as partners in the council and other agencies
  • defining a programme of social action embracing community expertise and civic participation
  • securing Place-based community networks and partnerships

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent

  • Senior management experience within a large and complex organisation where the focus is on improving outcomes for local people within a political context.
  • Experience of leading and managing services that enable the voluntary and community sector to be effective, independent and resilient.
  • Experience of leading and managing community facing teams with confidence, demonstrating flexibility to change and promoting excellence.
  • Experience of managing community facilities to enable increased resident participation and programme delivery.
  • Essential criteria

  • Proven personal and professional credibility to influence people at different levels of seniority including a range of bodies, groups and partnerships to secure commitment to objectives.
  • Proven ability to create and lead the delivery of effective community development and engagement programmes that improve outcomes for local residents.
  • Ability to develop and lead a team to implement locally based work plans and strategies that address challenging social and economic issues and improve outcomes for residents.
  • Proven ability to strategically lead stakeholders in the design and delivery of place shaping at local and hyper local levels.
  • Ability to work directly with people of diverse cultures and experiences to identify challenges and plan and implement creative solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of the local government and public sector context and be able to manage sensitive community issues and political interfaces.
  • A thorough knowledge of the local / national landscape for the voluntary and community sector and public services and the impact on residents.
  • Strong budget management skills and the ability to understand need across services and communities in making resource decisions to improve outcomes for communities across Islington.
  • Excellent analytical skills including ability to understand a range of diverse issues, assess their implications and inform policy, strategy and planning.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and take a solution focussed approach to bring clarity and reach consensus.
