Amey Consulting’s Highways teams impact the journeys of millions across the UK, by working in partnership with a range of clients and providing consultancy design services for Strategic and Local Highway networks.

What is the purpose of this role?

Our multidisciplinary team situated in Belfast encompasses highway, bridges and civil structures, drainage and river engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental consultancy, utilities, BIM, traffic and transportation.

We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our local highways team and assist us to deliver an unprecedented local workload for a variety of clients including both the DfI Roads and Translink.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in highway or civil engineering design.

What will this role involve?

In a typical week you will :

  • Managing the delivery of a range of highway schemes including in the field of sustainable transport, blue-green infrastructure, public realm, pavement engineering or road safety schemes
  • Develop designs following the Client's requirements and relevant design standards to achieve cost-effective solutions
  • Assist in the development and supervision of the project team
  • Assist with competency appraisal processes subject to a suitable level of supervision
  • Represent the business stream in multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances
  • Prepare and check feasibility studies, appraisal / assessment reports and other written documents
  • Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options
  • Preparation of highway alignment and junction designs
  • Produce and check design concepts, design details, drawings specifications and other technical documents
  • Design of Highway schemes (junctions, links, cycle and public realm schemes to DMRB standards)
  • Preparing departures, pavement designs, RRRAP assessments, traffic sign and road marking designs
  • Use of highway / drainage design software, including Bentley MX, Civil 3D, Microdrainage and KeySIGN
  • Working following current BIM and information modelling standards
  • Use of Common Data Environments such as Bentley ProjectWise
  • What are we looking for?

    Essential Criteria :

  • Chartered Engineer, or near chartered status
  • Bachelors (preferably Masters) degree in Civil Engineering, accredited by the Engineering council
  • Knowledge of current Health and Safety Legislation and CDM Regulations
  • Experience in delivering competent designs of minor and major road schemes for trunk and local roads
  • Experience of highway design standards (DMRB) / contract standards (MCHCW)
  • Knowledge / use of highway / drainage design software, preferably Civil 3D or Bentley MX, Micordrainage or KeySIGN would be advantageous.
  • Desirable Criteria :

  • Knowledge of BIM (or BIM authoring software) and Common Data Environments (such as ProjectWise).
  • Knowledge of MS Project or other programming software would also be advantageous
  • Project management experience or accreditations
