Biffa are on the lookout for a General Manager (Biffa Leicester) to manage, develop and profitably grow the Leicester business unit in accordance with the Leicester City Council PFI contract.
You will be maintaining discipline throughout the team ensuring safe working practices and morale is supported and an environment of achievement is sustained.
You will also ensure the business is operated optimally and compliantly.
Develop and improve the safety culture, through monitoring compliance and setting achievable targets for improvement including implementation and maintenance of all company policies and procedures.
Monitor business unit performance against budget and financial targets. Adjust methods and approach to operations to ensure financial goals are achieved.
Improve the culture for Environmental Awareness in all aspects of site operations. Monitor compliance and develop achievable targets for improvement including communication of these effectively to the team.
To create a culture of support for operations, maintenance, projects, technical and administration that drives the achievement of business targets and plans.
Building an environment for personnel development and ensuring that such development is appropriately supported and facilitated to demonstrate clear opportunities for succession
To develop and implement new technologies, processes and business types.
To implement tight cost control, and identify synergy savings as part of margin improvement
To develop strong relationships with the client and associated regional authorities
Lead specific strategic groups as required
To carry out any other such reasonable job related tasks as the company may require you to undertake from time to time.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The above accountabilities account for most of their time however all at various times
The General Manager needs to understand the technical and Managerial side of the job which are at very different levels throughout each and every day
The candidate should be educated to degree level or equivalent ideally in a Scientific, Engineering or Finance field
Full autonomy is required to meet the SHEQ targets and financial objectives.
The job roles that report to the General Manager include the Plant Manager; Workshop Manager, Refuse and CRC Services Manager and Community Liaison Coordinator
Management of and compliance with a complex, multi-faceted contract that provides numerous services against set objectives and performance levels
Effective communication is crucial to success. The General Manager will interface with a wide range of audiences that includes inter alia;
external stakeholders, regulators, the client, suppliers, contractors and internal colleagues that range from senior management to hourly paid operational staff members.
10 years Process industry experience in technical and operational management roles
Understands relevant industry, transport and health & safety legislation
Can influence, lead and persuade others
Can deal with conflict and negotiate desired outcomes
Analytical and has techniques for identifying and solving problems
Highly numerate and literate , both in verbal and written forms
Confident and credible presenter
IT literate comfortable using business software and systems
Effective time manager and self-organiser
High Level of integrity and accountability are evident.
Proven leadership and people management skills, including performance management.
