Job Description Summary

This role negotiates and settles Legal cost bills in accordance with Travelers philosophy.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Negotiates all legal costs submissions for both plaintiff and defence legal teams ensuring that the company pay no more than the market standard levels in all cases.
  • Authorises claims payments within sanctions authority agreed with and approved by Claims Manager.
  • Review and authorise claim reserves as and when required.
  • Ensure that agreed service targets are achieved and maintain quality of output.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with external contacts and liaise with relevant parties internally on quality of service provided and on product information.
  • Evaluate information received and communicate as appropriate to all relevant parties.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior experience of negotiating legal costs bill associated with litigation.
  • Defence cost bill review experience desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of handling files from notification to settlement including attending circuit and high court cases.
  • Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • Progression towards CIP, Costs Lawyer or CILEx qualification desirable
  • Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Intermediate organisational skills with an advanced degree of detail consciousness.
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Advanced negotiation skills.
  • Environmental / Work Schedules / Other
