About The Service
ICT is part of the Council’s Customer and Digital Services Directorate.
Its primary functions are :
to provide high quality IT systems, support and maintenance across the organisation
to provide strategic advice and guidance to the service areas and their directorates
to contribute to the delivery of the Council’s Digital First approach set out in the Capital Ambition programme
The technologies supported are predominantly based around Microsoft Windows desktop, laptop and server platforms with applications delivered through a range of physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be a part of Cardiff Council’s innovative business intelligence service.
The successful candidate will join the Application Support & Data Team and, alongside other Senior Data Engineers, will be responsible for developing and maintaining the data provisioning service that ensures business critical information is made available to decision makers across the local authority.
This post will have specific responsibility for the development of Cardiff Council’s approach in leveraging data to ensure we deliver timely and proportionate services of the highest quality to vulnerable young people and adults.

What We Are Looking For From You
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Developing organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for data management processes, including classification, security, quality, ethical principles, retrieval, and retention processes.
Developing data models to represent and communicate data requirements that enable the organisation to understand its data assets.
Developing data management structure and metadata to support consistency of information retrieval, combination, analysis, pattern recognition and interpretation throughout the organisation.
Planning effective data storage within the organisation.
Designing, building, testing, and maintaining ETL processes on very large datasets.
Optimising code and configuring cloud provisioned resources to achieve maximum throughput and allowing business critical workloads to take priority.
Monitor ETL / ELT processes, quickly act upon failures, proactively communicate errors / failures, and coordinate with other teams whenever necessary to resolve.
Acting as second and third-line support in undertaking tasks assigned via the Service Desk.
Working to best practices in source code management, using the company source control tools and processes
Ensuring that high-quality documentation is developed, maintained, regularly reviewed for all development and operational processes
Performing peer reviews of solutions and documentation in order to ensure that company procedures and standards are followed consistently
Contributing to the development of the organisation’s technology platform
