The Role

What does a Night Social Care Worker do?

The support you provide will depend on the people you work with, within an agreed shift pattern, starting with a comprehensive handover from the day support team.

In general, your role is likely to include :

  • Helping to meet the emotional, physical, psychological and social needs of the people you support.
  • Supervising bedtime routines, including personal care, and helping to settle everyone down to sleep.
  • Monitoring people’s welfare, with regular checks throughout the night.
  • Assisting with basic healthcare needs, including helping with medicines due overnight.
  • Helping to keep accurate records and contributing to assessments and reviews.
  • Where will I work?

    Redlands House is a large, detached home in Eastleigh, close to the town centre, five miles from Southampton. The home supports up to eight men and women of various ages with severe learning disabilities, autism and associated complex needs.

    People at the home have different levels of communication : some use Makaton, and others communicate with sounds, facial and body expressions and using objects of reference.

    What experience do I need?

    Whether you’ve worked in social care before, or are completely new to the sector, we will welcome your application. You don’t need previous experience, just the right attitude, a desire to help others and a willingness to learn.

    We’ll give you all the training you need from the day you join, including valuable, transferable skills. Career prospects are great too, with plenty of opportunities to progress within the organisation.
