About the role

The role reports directly into the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible providing effective finance business partnering to the Director of Capital and Commercial Services, with responsibility across the whole directorate.

  • Capital and Commercial Services (CCS) is a major part of Severn Trent’s business and one of our largest and varied directorates;
  • briefly comprising of the following areas :

  • Capital Design & Delivery - Our Capital Programme Delivery teams will be investing c.£2billion over the next 5 years and are responsible for the design, build and maintenance of our water and waste infrastructure including complex, multiyear upgrades to our water and sewage treatment works, water pipelines, reservoirs and boreholes.
  • Business Services Our non-regulated business that operate across the whole of the UK and comprise a number of different commercial businesses, ranging from Green energy generation from food waste, to providing water services to the MoD.
  • Our non-regulated businesses have a combined turnover of c.£145m and PBIT of c.£24m.

  • Commercial & Procurement Responsible for all procurement / commercial services across the Severn Trent Group and the capital commercial teams who support the delivery of the capital projects.
  • Supply chain and logistics Provide critical support services across Severn Trent, including Transport, consumables logistics and warehousing.
  • The role is a key and varied Divisional Finance Director role within Severn Trent, providing critical support to both the CFO and the Director of Capital and Commercial Services, with significant visibility at the Severn Trent Executive Committee (STEC), and the main PLC Board.

    You’ll also provide leadership to the Finance and Performance team, ensuring they have the skills, experience and drive to support their operating customers, to enable better, value-based decision-making, identify and implement efficiencies at pace and improve financial controls.

    Finally, the role will also be part of the Severn Trent senior management team, contributing not just to our Finance leadership but the overall leadership and running of the business.

    About you

    We’re looking for a qualified finance professional with experience working at a senior finance level (e.g.Divisional Finance Director) in a commercial, competitive environment with finance business partnering experience at all levels.

    You’ll be experienced in supporting a varied, complex multiyear capital programme in an asset-heavy industry such as utilities, transport, manufacturing and construction.

    You’ll have long range forecasting and planning experience and experience in delivery of large complex interactive budgets.

    Experience of building effective working relationships with a diverse range of senior stakeholders (including board and executive level) is essential and you will be used to drawing on internal and external networks to solve challenges and influence change.

    As a leader you will be used to inspiring teams, utilising their knowledge and helping them put in place the processes and structure needed to deliver a step change in performance.
