Junior Network Operations Administrator Altrincham, Manchester
This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking junior network engineer with around 2 years of experience on a large and varied network.
You will supporting both the internal IHSM network along with extensive exposure to our thousands of clients from financial services to maritime businesses.
A keen learner and an ability to adapt to a fast changing environment, you will be exposed to a large variety of network platforms both physical and virtual.
The network engineer role is constantly being redfined and we would like the candidate to adapt accordingly as our environment changes.
This role is a great opportunity to learn.
Around 2 years of exposure to a large enterprise network predominantly Cisco centric (CCNA would be advantageous)
A hunger to learn new technology in a constantly fast changing environment
Knowledge of firewalls, specifically Palo Alto but not necessary for the role as this will be taught
An appreciation of ITIL practices (ideally a foundation in ITIL)
Adherence to change control procedures, knowledge of SNOW would be a bonus
Must be a self-starter able to work independently or within a large group of fellow engineers
Ability to work outside of the network realm with a variety of other technology teams supporting virtual and physical platforms such as Linux, Database teams
Confidence in interactions with our clients often dealing with connection issues, troubleshooting
Diligence in documentation, maintaining standards for a large enterprise (Visio, Office 365)
Familiarity with various forms of client connectivity for our product offerings such as leased lines, VPNs and Internet delivery
Duties & accountabilities
Client onboarding relating to connecting clients to our network for the products we supply across private lines, VPNs, Internet and public cloud hosted services
Day to day operational support working within a global team
Managing their workload, willingness to take on issues and own to resolution
Using network monitoring systems to proactively provide support to both internal and external clients
Able to work effectively with global teams and ensure co-ordination amongst stakeholders
Responsibilities will include hands-on fault diagnosis and resolution, process creation and optimization, knowledge sharing and delivery against agreed goals and objectives
Drive RCA for incidents and provide solutions and enhancements
Manage relationships with all customers within the support and development application teams across all business lines
Be proactive and offer solutions to set-ups
Keen eye for detail, thoroughness in documentation
Out of hours work is expected on occasion
Knowledge of the IHSM products and more importantly the clients we work with would be advantageous but not obligatory
Working with demanding clients in the financial world and an appreciation of the 24 hour nature of their business
